The book touches subjects of great interest to me (who doesn’t have to deal with stress and anxiety once and a while?), I read a lot about that and I would like to share something about what is presented in the book.
Meditation: to me this is powerful! The ability to control your though is so fundamental to a good living, and few people have a good practice in that (I’m still learning). I met people that ware afraid to close their eyes, because could not deal with the hurricane of his inner life, or didn’t like to sleep, or being alone. Or people that have to be doing something all the time to stop thinking about what he was thinking (anyone can relate to that? Or know someone? I would love to read you thoughts).
Meditation seems to help a lot with that, be able to hear a song, or a bird, I mean, only the bird as nothing else goes in your head is just beautiful (anyone relate?). It also improves mindfulness: have you ever talked to someone and it looks like the person is in Mars (or even farther)? The body is in front of you but it just doesn’t feels like.
Breathing: breathing is dealt as a meditation step; I personally think that it’s so fundamental that it should have more space and attention. I remember a quote from Josten Gaarden: “Never lose your desire to walk. Every day walk to a good state and walk away from any illness. Everyday walk into beautiful thoughts because I know of no thought that you can’t walk away from.” Beautiful! He uses a basic human skill as tool to find peace and heath. I think the same is breathing: no effective health practice can be successful without some breathing step, and it is so basic! Well, I not a doctor, just my opinion. What do you think?
Positive stress: this is really something new to me. Stress being positive? I don’t know if a got right, maybe not, but I think the point of positive stress is genuine interest, total focus and having fun. I mean, you can be stressed and not have adrenaline running in your body (the GABA stuff he talked about), so you can be stressed and still feel good? Could you guys help me with that? I’m currently reviewing a book (Invent, Innovate, and Prosper, by Michael G. Colburn) and it’s great how it teaches how to have a great mind. People will think you are under stress, multitasking and doing many things, but you are having fun! (by the way, there is a line in the club presentation that says something like this: “if you are not paid by the review, at least you got a free book that many people will have to pay for.” About this book I’m reading: I think I won the bargain! Anyone had a similar experience?)
This is my first post and maybe I wrote too much. Was this post relevant and appropriate? Could you guys help me with that?
Love to be here!

This book is a great book that actually deserves 4 out of 4 stars. This book explains terms of anxiety and stress in its initial part, then it describes various strategies and techniques to resolve anxiety and enhance well-being.
There are a lot of therapies CBT etc are discussed which tells that cognitions affects behavior. Behavior is directed by cognition so control of thoughts is important. This is a good psychology book that can be applied in everyday life. A very exciting and educational book for everyone. Everyone must read it at least once.

I get discouraged reading books that touch on medical aspects because of the terms used. It was a relief when I could read this book, actually understand what it contains and be able to implement the techniques given.

A lot of great ideas but maybe it would be easier to digest if it were broken into separate posts. I agree with your take on meditation. I find mind control easier if I ACT like I'm not stressed. Fake it til you make it.
