Thank goodness I'm not the only one who felt this way. I chose this book to review because there were so many enthusiastic reviews and because I love high fantasy, but I was incredibly disappointed from the moment I started reading. The magic system lacked logic, there were so few female characters that the lack of depth of the few women portrayed was impossible to ignore, and I really struggled to forgive some poor choices regarding the attitudes toward sexual orientation. I gave this book one star as well.mariana90 wrote: ↑08 Oct 2020, 16:20 I gave this book only 1 star: the characters are not interesting enough and there’s not enough plot to keep the reader invested. It reads like a first draft of a possibly promising story. The author needs to correct the various grammatical mistakes and to flesh out a stronger plot. In other words, he needs to rewrite.

The character development was quite good. It was a good book and I'll love to read more like it.

Did anyone else also feel a little uncertain about the end: was Hillport destroyed at least partially, or was it all just magic and mind games?
