I didn't like the fact that Galen only had little to no effect in the major conflict; however, it is understandable since the book this serves as an introduction to the series and focuses on world-building and character development. I also extremely enjoyed reading the first few pages of the novel. The beginning is entrancing. I am extremely awed by the author's captivating writing.
I thought the same thing about Galen too. Still, he was my best character in the story. I wasn't even thinking about King Wilhelm or any other character. I just wanted to know about Galen and his inheritance. But maybe the author fleshes out his character more in the next 5 books.

Upon reading Book 2, I finally realize the WHYs and HOWs. Thank goodness, I didn't give up on Galen and Matthew Tysz.
It wasn't just you. I also gave the book 3 stars. I disliked the slow start of the book as I prefer books that go straight into the thick of things from the beginning. It is liable to bore some readers in some places with unnecessary details.
I did like the character development and the fact that it was well-edited. . Galen and Rowan's relationship was nice. My favourite character was Meldorath.

I really enjoyed reading this book and I gave it a full rating. I particularly liked the characters and their development. My favorite one was Rowan. The author has a unique writing style that engaged me from the beginning until the end. I don't think there's anything that I disliked about this book. I wouldn't normally read a book like this one, but I must say I will in the future because of this book. I would recommend the book to fans of adventures, fantasy, and action.

I gave it the overall rating because I was impressed. For a first installment, it was a perfect job. I especially loved Galen's character, as he came off unassuming and naive. The gradual development of his character drew me in.

I liked the variation in character personality and type, plus the dynamic among them. The hint of mystery in the book, especially towards the end, is also something I enjoyed. I didn't like the frequency of errors, though. If there's something else I would complain about, it's the fact that the book is too short. There are other books in the series already published, however, so that shouldn't be too much of a problem.

I was prepared not to enjoy this book as I am not a fan of fantasy novels. I did almost give upon the book during the first part of the book as I could not determine how this diverse set of characters were going to become a cohesive story. The author does warn us that there is a lot of background material in this first book of the series.

After reading a little further I dropped my doubts and began to enjoy learning more about the players in this intricate world. Many of the characters were not simply good nor evil. As a reader I appreciate being given time to decide for myself which category the character falls into, if at all.

I’m not a fan of sci-fi and magic but surprisingly I gave this book a perfect rating! I love the originality of the story, the characters, the situations, and the places. I’m in love with Galen Bray’s character and want to know more about bio magic.

I loved the premise of this book. Based on Ancient times, it evoked memories of a series, THE Last Ship, which some of the actions took place at sea. I loved most its suspenseful nature. It kept me guessing, and I just couldn't stop reading. I'd recommend this book to anyone with an interest in historical fiction. I rated it 4 out of 4 stars

With history missed with fiction, I cannot get enough suspense. It started slowly but got fascinated after reading the first few pages. The next target is finding the second series. I gave it four out of four stars.

I think this is a great introduction to a series, particularly because of all the supporting documentation the author provides. I'm really looking forward to reading the rest of the series. The only problem I had with it was the errors, which must have slipped past the editor - otherwise, I would have rated it four out of four stars.

My rating for this book was 3 ot of 4 stars. Eventhogh it is a bit slow going in the begining , the pace gathered as I read along. Many names mentioned in the story were unheard of, however it was a great help that the author has mentioned the glossary of terms at the end of the book. Looking forward to read the remainder of the series as well.

Yes, the author has a unique writing style, specially when he writing both on the first person narration and third person narration in the same story. I find it something of a rarerity among the authors. :D

Unique Ego wrote: 22 Nov 2020, 16:50 Overall, I think it was a good book. My favorite character was Galen Bray. For some reason, I found that I was really only interested in him and his uncle's inheritance. Of course, the book was about much more than that, but that was what caught my attention. He just felt more relatable to me than all the other characters, from the wizards to the royals.
That may be because he is the protaganist. Instinctively,I too like the character of Galen. However, when I ponder into the characters in depth, then I am really fond of Rowan's character as well. Hopefully, he will feature in the future books of this series more prominantly. :D

I found the book quite insightful especially with regard to other two books I had read and reviewed in the series. Had I read this book first, perhaps I would have understood from which direction Voulhire was evolving. I managed to look at some details of how Tysz invented Voulhire in his web page and I have to agree he is talented. That is why rated the book a perfect 4.
