From The book do you think self-preservation or human rights matter more? Should Voulhire risk war and allow refuges from the Land of the Princes to come to seek refuge in their state?

Whether Voulhire allows refugees or not, there is already war.
Refusing to take in refugees under the guise of preventing war is simply cowardice and lack of humanity.
If we lose our humanity, then there is no 'self' left to preserve.

No one can exist in isolation. You need to co-operate and co-ordinate with others to survive. Not extending help and shelter to refugees from the Land of Princes is short sighted, lacks humanity and in the long run does not help towards self preservation. And as already pointed out, it isn't going to stop the war either.

Human rights matter more than self-preservation, because in the end self-preservation won't be enough to hold back an advancing army. Allowing refugees in might actually give them a chance of surviving the coming war.

Not stretching out assistance and sanctuary to exiles from the Land of Princes is childish, needs mankind and over the long haul doesn't help towards self safeguarding. Furthermore, as effectively brought up, it won't stop the war all things considered.

They should risk war in saving human rights. Because nothing matters more like right of the human beings.

Truth is, no one is free until we are all free. If you're claiming that you're preserving yourself in a looming war because you think you won't be affected, it will most likely meet up with you. Pray tell, if it was family at risk, will you argue 'self-preservation?'

Well said! An endless war dragging on for ages had already made the innocent citizens of the Land of the Princes hopeless. Not many manage to escape.
Not accepting refugees, indeed is an act of cowardice. For above all, humanity is what is needed in a society. Everything else comes under it.

I think the answer/opinion to this question changes with the type of person. A person like Galen and king Wilhelm there is no doubt that they would allow refugees into Voulhire because is the right thing to do but, individuals such as Nartik and Maido think only of themselves and I don't think that's a bad thing, it's just a little selfish and inhumane considering what the people in the Land of the Princes are going through.

I also agree that, preventing the refugees won't really bring peace - war should still be expected. I love Miss Shore's declaration that they (Voulhire) must stand up to the
urgent need of those refugees in accommodating
them, give them a decent living where their lives
could be secured, and also live to their full
potential. And of which at the long run the
refugees could latter turn to the resources for
Voulhire to gain more powers, wealth and
fully actualizes it's potentials.

Self - preservation matters more because the Emperor of Lullabies would not have attacked Voulhire if King Wilhelm wasn't willing to help the refugees from the Land of the Princes.

Initially, Sophie Shore had my support. But after the invasion of the Emperor's frightening armies in Voulhire, I think that such casualty in Soulhire could have been prevented if the existence of the wicked and powerful Emperor was considered much more by the king.

Self-preservation matters more. What's the point of allowing refugees to enter Voulhire only for all of them including the citizens of Voulhire to be murdered by the Emperor who by all inclinations seems to be bent on extinguishing the very existence of human beings. Not to say that human rights are to be ignored, but one can only do so much without losing what they have.

I think self preservation matters more. While it might seem morally right to accept the immigrants, it wouldn't make any sense if after they do war defends on their land making their land just like the places where the immigrants came from. That in my opinion is just double loss.

This is one sad dilemma in the book. I'll say Voulhire should allow refugees from the Land of the Princes. But the war overtook them because of Meldorath that later turned betrayer.
So, what was lacking was lack of appropriate preparation.
