A few suggestions ...

Hannibal Lechter series by Thomas Harris.
John Rebus series by Ian Rankin.
Dalziel & Pascoe series by Reginald Hill.
Harry Bosch series by Michael Connolly.
Agatha Raisin series by MC Beaton.
Tom Thorne series by Mark Billingham.

Other authors I would recommend are Jonathon Kellerman, Harlan Coben, James Patterson, Minette Walters.

Sheds.

Looking for a thrill ride ... check out The God Complex by Chris Titus. This Da Vinci-style adventure will take you on a thrill ride through Chinese medicine. The author combined fact and fiction in a unique format "that has audiences talking" ... and not all positively. From what I've read, the book has become controversial since one of the characters uses Eastern medicine to cause harm in order to prove a point. This 'apparently' goes against the first tenet of health care ... "do no harm." Personally, I thought that was the best part of the story b/c he reveals a hidden connection between acupuncture and martial arts. Some Oriental medical practitioners and martial artists are up in arms over it ... as are some in the West (for other reasons). One of the aspects I enjoyed most was that it was inspired by actual events. Two thumbs up for this one ...

The good thing about these books is that they can be read as a stand alone. Sure sometimes she mentions a little bit about a previous character from another book but it's really mostly in passing.

But if you wanted to read them in order, it goes like this:

Don't Tell (2003)
Have You Seen Her? (2004)
I'm Watching You (2004)
Nothing to Fear (2005)
You Can't Hide (2006)
Count to Ten (2007)
I Can See You (2009)
Silent Scream (2010)
You Belong to Me (2011)
No One Left to Tell (2012)
Did You Miss Me? (2013)

In the midst of that is her Daniel Vartanian series (I guess it would be best to read them in order as it follows a logical pattern)
1. Die for Me (2007)
2. Scream for Me (2008)
3. Kill for Me (2009)

They are pretty corny. But fairly good stories.

I'm looking for some good Mystery recs...Mainly looking for something that isn't romance, not a detective/cop thriller, and not a killing spree horror novel. The last mystery esque book I read was 'The Thirteenth Tale' and I remember I was bored to tears almost but stuck with it till the end.

Hi,

As far as Crime novels go I don't think there is anyone who can touch Elmore Leonard. A unique writer who picks on on diction and how people inter-relate so well. He specialises in writing about the New York underworld and from the Criminals point of view. Try Jackie Brown, Swag or Mr. Majestic. All are fast books - once you have picked them up you wont put them down - they are powerful page turners with a cute black sense of humour. Each character is brilliantly drawn so you end up really feeling for the main protagonist. (I ought to say his Westerns are brilliant to - try Last stand at Saber River - but I am not sure that should be in the is section!)

I came across a book by Glen Ebisch titled "Ghosts From The Past" The cover also list it as "A Roaming New England Mystery". I went to Fantastic Fiction, where all authors and their books are listed, to see what other books were in this series. FF lists this book as a single novel. Does anyone know if it's a single or part of a series?

Just read Telling Tales by Elspeth Daniels, recommended by a friend. 12 super ghost/mystery/horror stories, each with a surprise ending, plus two descriptive pieces about being on safari in the African Game Reserves. Great writing, good read.

I have just finished reading The Nightmare by Lars Kepler, if you enjoy nervous tension then this is a good book for you. Joona is a great character. Patiently waiting for the next book....
