Review of Invisible: A Perte de Vue

Invisible: À Perte de Vue by Phillip William Hand marks the beginning of the Wilhelm Libertaire series. The author is a former Marine and scholar with a penchant for outdoor adventures. He is also a skilled calligrapher, fluent in Chinese, and has been a practitioner of various martial arts for many decades. This spy novel is not for the faint-hearted, as the author sets a new standard for the genre. Expect to be blown away by a thrilling ride that surpasses the usual.
The United States government is committed to safeguarding the world's resources and annihilating its enemies. Meanwhile, the Council of Five is also vigorously involved in this mission. The plot revolves around the protection of fresh water and food supplies from enemies who will stop at nothing to acquire knowledge about them. Wilhelm Libertaire's boss, Frank De Pore, assigns him the task and gives him complete freedom to execute it. Frank wants to ensure that the given task is accomplished. How is the Council of Five involved, and what is their motivation?
The plot features a multitude of characters, divided into different agencies and teams. The spies employ unique techniques. The assignments are not only sexually charged but also deadly, as they rely on a blend of modern technology and old spying methods, making the action scenes gruesome. The 427 pages of twists and turns take the reader on a thrilling and action-packed journey into the world of espionage, which is chilling and nerve-wracking. The unexpected betrayals keep you on the edge. Revealing any more will be considered giving away too much about the plot. Hence, I am compelled to conclude here.
The writing style is superbly engaging. The plot is realistic. The story follows various groups with ulterior motives, moving rapidly to unthinkable lows in their quest for control and power over the world's natural resources. The vivid descriptions of the various locations and scenes help paint a detailed picture and enhance the reading experience. The action scenes are effectively written. I loved reading each one of them. You will realize that the author uses his decades of active martial arts practice while describing the combat scenes, making them thoroughly real. The story flows like a movie, depicting scene after scene of happenings on various fronts. I admit, I had to go back and reread some parts to ensure I had the correct names and code names. However, this didn't bother me much. I loved how the suspense was maintained until the end, with every character contributing to the master plot.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and cannot think of any negative aspects except the errors I encountered. A thorough re-editing will help deliver an error-free book and enhance the overall reading experience. The errors forced me to reduce a star and rate the book 4 out of 5 stars.
The book is a gripping espionage novel. It is packed with action and adventure. However, with the presence of profanity and sexual content, I recommend this book strictly for mature adults only. For those who can handle such content, this book offers a unique perspective on the life of a secret service agent and their willingness to risk their lives for greater safety. I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I am eagerly anticipating the next installment in the series.
