“Winter Kill” by E. J. Pepper is a mystery novel that certainly gives Sherlock Holmes a run for his money. This fiction story focuses more on telling a great crime story from the perspective of the several suspects involved in the crime. A downtrodden journalist, Oliver Moorhouse, who seems to be carrying along with life and satisfying the several grumbles of his girlfriend, gets thrown into a murder case when his chief editor links him up for a story with a dubious member of the House of Lords. It becomes even more complicated when Ollie finds himself under the bus as the prime suspect when his informant, Lord Hamish, is murdered. This is made worse by the fact that Ollie has no way to explain the event that led up to the murder, nor is he ready to give up the fact that he broke into the home of another member of the House of Lords during the event of the murder. Eventually realizing that nobody is going to believe him, he takes on the responsibility of breaking the true story amidst several interesting plots playing out in the homes of Lord Leebury and his friend Greg Jacobs.

There are several positives to the book. Telling the story from the perspective of the suspects has certainly given the tale a chilly feeling similar to the thrill in Dostoevsky’s "Crime and Punishment" while still maintaining the suspense of a criminal mystery. More often, readers of crime stories are stuck with detectives as they try to crack a crime case. E. J. Pepper rather lets her readers through the story, insights, and backstories of the suspects themselves. The author, in a good way, got me hooked on the emotions of the suspects rather than the excitement of a detective’s mystery-solving. Also, the author has done a good job of leaving her audience suspecting and has done an even better job of shattering all expectations in a good way. Also, the book was properly proofread and edited. The story structure has also made it an amazing read.

The book has not compromised much on the negative side. However, I would have found it fulfilling if all the knots were wholly tied up. I was left in the loop regarding a lot of issues. The book was a gripping success and kept me plunging through the mystery. This and other reasons made reading the book very fulfilling. I give the book five out of five stars.

I recommend this book to lovers of crime stories and detective TV shows, as well as everyone who loves a good thrill and mystery every now and then. If you enjoy Agatha Christie-type whodunits, this book would be a great read.

"Winter Kill" sounds like a captivating mystery novel that takes a unique approach by delving into the perspectives of suspects rather than focusing solely on detectives. Your review highlights the chilling atmosphere reminiscent of Dostoevsky's "Crime and Punishment" and praises the author's skill in keeping readers engaged with the suspects' emotions and backstories. Thanks for sharing your insightful review!

Howdy there! After readin' this here review, it's clear as day that Winter Kill by E. J. Pepper is one thrillin' and engagin' mystery novel. The author's unique approach of tellin' the story from the perspectives of the suspects adds an extra chill to the tale, makin' it a page-turner. The character development and unpredictability of the plot kept the reviewer hooked. The only drawback seemed to be a few loose ends left hangin'. Overall, I reckon this book deserves a solid five outta five stars. If you fancy crime stories and detective TV shows, this here book is a must-read. Happy readin'! Intriguing premise, captured my attention instantly.

This book sounds like my cup of tea. Mystery, suspense, the story told from the angle of the suspects in an interesting approach. The comparison to Agatha Christie, one of my favorite authors, is all the information needed to want to read this book.

"Winter Kill" by E.J. Pepper is a gripping crime thriller that takes a bold approach—telling the story through the suspects’ eyes. Journalist Oliver Moorhouse becomes entangled in a murder case involving a House of Lords member. A unique take on guilt, motives, and the search for truth. Congratulations on being BOTD!

This review beautifully captures the unique angle of Winter Kill by E. J. Pepper, highlighting its fresh perspective by exploring the suspects' emotions rather than a detective’s journey. The comparison to Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment adds depth, though the desire for more closure is valid. An insightful and engaging critique!

This book presents a story of crime, suspense and mystery. I find it appealing that it is told from the perspective of the various suspects, highlighting their emotions rather than focusing on the clues of detectives solving the mystery.

The review covers the summary of the book which helped me understand the book even more after reading it. The back stories of the suspect are well explained and help the readers to understand the script. The use of suspense can be seen, and this draws my attention; it made me add the book to my want-to-read shelf because I'm also a lover of crime stories.

I'd love an Agatha Christie-style read. Detailing the emotions of the suspects rather than the excitement of a detective’s mystery-solving sounds super appealing. The author's vivid description of the space and settings in the pages I sampled adds a level of intrigue. Thanks for your interesting review.

The difference between taking and giving, and taking and not giving is the difference between life and death.
