The book Justice by Scott Hughes has a poetic connotation to it. We meet Brynn, a beautiful and sexy woman married to Marcus. However, we meet her in a precarious situation. She is unhappily married to Marcus. Her idea of trying to make lemonade out of lemons is to entertain other men. You see, Marcus is not physically abusive, but have you heard of emotional abuse? Brynn's cheating is justice for her. However, when Marcus finds out about it, he makes a drastic decision. What will amount to justice for him? And does what he considers 'just' have other consequences? Pick up this book to find out.

What I loved most about this book was the poetic feel to it. The author is candid when it comes to describing the feelings of the characters. The juxtaposition between Marcus and Joseph was impeccable. I loved that the author managed to tell the stories of two different families and connect them at the end. The book does not shy away from addressing the issue of marital struggles and the extremes people go to due to them.

My only issue with the book was the way marriage was portrayed. As someone who still believes in family as a unit, I felt the bias of making marriage appear like a chore. Due to this, I had to take off a star. If you are someone who believes in the sanctity of marriage and that marriage works, this book may trigger you negatively. Also, themes of abuse and domestic violence are present. Therefore, if you are sensitive about such themes, you may want to steer clear of this book.

I recommend this book to anyone who loves short stories that stay within the theme without meandering off. The story is straightforward, keeping your attention from the beginning to the end. You can easily read this book in one sitting. The suspense will keep you glued as you cannot wait to know the fate of the characters in the end. I rate the book 4 out of 5 stars.

I thought that I would be interested in this book until I read the part about short stories. I just don’t like them. I thought that it was because of the length not allowing for proper character development, but then I found one that fit what I thought were my criteria and I still didn’t like it. I can’t explain the feeling I get. Thanks!

A book with poetic connotations with a slightly different take on marriage ... sounds interesting. Thanks for the short & sweet review, @Mutai Marshal.

This is a short book but it seems really intense in the way marriage is at the center of the plot, which include some of its dark sides. Thank you for your great review!
