Review of Out for Justice
Out for Justice by Vicki M. Taylor follows the character of Karen Sykes, who is a rookie detective. Her first homicide case is the murder of a four-year-old boy. The boy's parents are distraught, and Karen is driven to prove that she has what it takes to solve the case. She wants justice for the boy and his family. However, nothing is as it seems. A shoeprint connects the boy's murder to a murdered John Doe. Clues begin to stack up, and Karen is sure she is missing something. Will she solve the case?
The characterization was excellent. I was drawn in by seeing how Karen would handle her first murder investigation. Her personal connection to the victim, her younger sister having been murdered as a child, gave her even more of a desire to solve the case. She also wanted to show off to Mike, a handsome crime tech. At first, she thought he was dismissing her and treating her like she knew nothing. However, after being informed that Mike was intrigued by her, she realized that the sparks between the two were undeniable. I thought it was relatable how Karen decided to turn to Cosmo magazine for relationship advice. Who hasn't turned to a magazine or website for some advice at least once?
In addition, I thought that Taylor laid several clues to the killer's identity throughout the book. While I had my suspicions, which turned out to be correct, I enjoyed being able to look back and see the subtle details that pointed to the ending. I feel as though many readers might be caught off guard, which is always fun when reading a murder mystery novel. I also appreciated the look into the evidence processing that was given because of Mike's involvement in the story.
I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. Given that romance and mystery are two of my favorite genres, I was thoroughly engaged by this book. There was nothing that I disliked about it; I had a hard time putting it down once I started. It was exceptionally well-edited; I did not spot any errors. The book does contain some explicit sexual content, so it is only suitable for mature audiences. If you enjoy murder mysteries with a romantic subplot, then Out for Justice is the perfect choice!

I typically guess what happens in movies, shows, and books, so this would be great if I were to be surprised. Hopefully the clues don't make it too easy for me to figure it out. Looks like a great book!
