The book, Serves You Right by Orion Gregory, is a well-written thriller filled with enough twists and turns to keep any avid mystery/crime reader engaged. The protagonist, Sydney Livingstone, is the unlikely detective coming from the world of professional tennis. This is her second appearance in one of the author’s works and is promised, in the Afterword of the book, to appear in more. She is a relatable character whom I started to admire from the very beginning. I loved her ability to learn from her mistakes and admit when she needed to take a step back and look at all angles.

One thing I enjoyed while reading this book involved constantly looking for clues as to who was responsible for the vigilante killings of targets who had seemingly “gotten away” with their heinous crimes. When I thought I had figured it out, I would read on and discover another layer of a character that would lead me down a different path. As the body count of The Enforcer grew, the ability to solve the case became more challenging. What makes this realistic book even more intriguing is the fact that it is set in a small-town region of Walsh County, Ohio. The local police department has become the center of the case. In meeting each of Sydney’s colleagues, I started to find myself disliking some of them and thinking they had the qualities to be The Enforcer. At times, even the targets became suspects in my eyes. The author’s ability to keep me second-guessing was amusing.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good mystery book they can’t put down. It was a quick, thought-provoking, and fun read. The Afterword was an added plus that has me looking forward to Orion Gregory’s future crime/mystery novels that include Sydney. I must say that there isn't anything I disliked about the book. Therefore, I give this book a 5 out of 5 for its highly engaging material.

Your excitement about Sydney Livingstone, the unlikely tennis-pro-turned-detective, and her relatable qualities, particularly her ability to learn from mistakes, really shines through. It's especially great that you enjoyed being kept on your toes, constantly looking for clues as The Enforcer's body count grew, even suspecting Sydney's own colleagues in Walsh County, Ohio. Awesome review.

I am an ardent reader of detective novels and it appears Detective Sydney is about to lead the reader on an exciting journey. It is good to read that the author's ability to keep the reader guessing is exceptional. Thanks for the review, @Nancy Ferris Postilli.

The idea of these vigilante killings where the targets "got away" with crimes is super intriguing. The reviewer's experience of constantly second-guessing who "The Enforcer" is, even suspecting Sydney's own colleagues, sounds like so much fun.
