I admired Embon for his strength and determination. Who is your favorite character?

Lady Sougyon. Such a strong woman! I love how she astounded the kind by being intelligent in her conversation and not just a pretty ornament, and how strong she was to raise Embon by herself even if, in my opinion, she made some mistakes.

I enjoyed Lady Sougyon best. She was arranged into a most unfortunate marriage and had to deal with a lot of disgrace because of her culture during the time. I think she rose above this by dealing with her husband without question, raised her son by herself, and still continued to grow intelligently.

I enjoyed reading about King Gojong's 64th birthday party. At the party, they served a new American specialty food - sandwiches. The King tried to eat the sandwich with his chopsticks and couldn't pick it up. So they all resigned to eating with their fingers. I had to laugh at that.

I greatly like Lady Sougyon. In a society that placed a low value on women or what they were capable of achieving, I liked the fact that she would go beyond those stereotypes and venture into fields only reserved for men. The fact that she was making this effort consciously made me like her even more.

My favourite characters are Lady sougyon because she was strong, intelligent, and progressive. And I liked Mitzuko too. Even though her role was a brief one, she was open-minded, independent, and pleasant.

My favorite one would be Lady Sougyon. She is such a strong woman who suffered from a difficult marriage while living in a society with such unlikely standards for women during that time. Even so, she was still the best mom she could be to her son.

Lady Sougyon, she is tough as she could engage the King as other women cowered. She was also determined not to follow barbaric cultures.

Lady Sougyon is my most favourite character in the book.
I really admire her strength, courage, smartness, and her eternal love and care for her son.
I am impressed by her awareness about the current affairs, as women in that era were just confined to homely chores and were not much motivated to take part in discussions.

I admired Mr Seoh. The welfare of his family was top priority to him, and he provided for them well. I think Mr Koo shouldn't have started raising a family in order to pursue his interests.

My favorite character is Embon since his introduction into the book interested me at first and I followed it through. The stories pertaining to his birth, his intelligence throughout his education, the process of his marriage and his journey through ending Japanese imperialism. So yeah, Embon is my favorite character since I loved everything he represented.

This book has so many likable characters. I cannot choose one. I like lady Sougyon she is so strong, determined and lovable. Mr. koo is another exceptional person, he is selfless and modest.

Lady Sougyon was my favorite character. She represents strong women who can go through hell and still remain intact. She is very open-minded and generous to everyone around her.

My pick goes to Embon, Kim EmBon (Em: Forest and Bon: Wealth). While on studies in Japan, he inspires by a group of young revolutionaries who sees him on a path of a comrade to seek justice to fellow nationals deprived of social disparities and freedom from Japanese ruling. In fact, the entire story revolves around him. All that made me quickly recall him.
