There is, a bit, but it's really thin on the ground. And, even as fantastical children's books go, I found them a bit abrupt in their transitions, and overall lacking in definite plot (both especially in the case of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland).
Certainly fun, especially for very young children, but seem overrated to me.
