An overhyped classic you really didn't like

All Kafka's books are overrated. He is the single most overrated writer of the twentieth century. Die Verwandlung is pretty average, IMHO.

Pride and Prejudice for me, seriously everything that was said that many number of pages could have been said in 10 pages max. There was no need for it to go on for that long.

Couldn't stand Lolita either, but I never actually finished it. Couldn't bear to read about Humbert Humbert. It made my skin crawl, and I never even made it to the really gross parts.

How To Kill A Mockingbird. It is so slow and drags the storyline. I couldn't finish 45% of the book.

To kill a mockingbird is one book I'm yet to understand why it get so much hype. I don't think it is worth the hype it gets.

I am not sure if this counts as a classic, but The Lost World by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. I just think for today's world that looks at animals, the environment, colonialism, and indigenious peoples' rights so differently, Doyle's work here was completely offensive to me.

Moby Dick by Herman Melville. I had read a lot of classic book recently that where not great but this one was the worst. Its about 300 pages too long and goes into in-depth detail of the different types of wales and how to kill them. Would not recommend.

I agree with one of the previous comments, for me it was Dracula. I really didn't enjoy it, I found it very slow and difficult to read.

The Picture of Dorian Gray, at least in my opinion. I got to it with lots of hype, and I could not finished (I tried three times). I didn't get into the style. I felt so disappointed.

It's a tie: "Wuthering Heights" (every single character is an asshole) and "Portrait of a Lady" (which I've read 3 or 4 times, hope springing eternally that THIS TIME it will be interesting, and I'm always wrong)

I had to read Wuthering Heights in high school and absolutely hated it. I agree, every character was despicable. Also, what was the point? Everyone is just pining and being cruel to one another, and it served no purpose. I pity anyone who has to read it.

I read Animal Farm in school and I battled to understand it. I had to take my English teachers' word for it that it was good. I re-read it as an adult, and although this time I understood it, I still found it to be extremely boring.
