The author's childhood years sound very interesting, with a few loving people to look after him. As a young man, it seems he was just drifting, having as much fun as possible. The army must've been quite a different experience. Thank you for your informative review.

Time spent in war zones impacts the psyche of the soldiers in unimaginable ways. Each person has their own way of processing it too. I'm intrigued to hear what the author here has to say; it seems like a unique experience. Awesome review!

It takes much courage for one to tell about his past. Through the memoir, I am sure there are a lot of things to pick up that will guide us in one way or another. Wonderful review.

An engaging memoir of Foster. From the review and the sample provided, this appears to be an interesting book. I would love to follow up on Foster's life to find how he finally ended up. I will be glad to take a way a lesson or two from his life. Nice OBC review given. Thank you and congratulations BOTD

Memoirs are not my cup of tea but I've read the review and the book sounds pretty interesting sharing with us the story of the author's quest for his own self and his life in the army and its consequences. I'm sure the book will find its reader. Congratulations on becoming BOTD!

"Memoir of a Deserter" by Thomas Foster portrays his life from a complex childhood, shaped by various caregivers. His move to Galveston with his partner, Simone, and subsequent job loss at her insurance company made him decide to join the Army. The book also explores his close friendships with Josh and Lisa, with whom he shared spiritual practices.
