The book is a compilation of quotes from eighth-grade students. Teachers and parents will reminisce on some familiar experiences. Readers craving some comic relief will also enjoy the book. The author is an experienced teacher and has built an incredible bond with the students.

What Did They Say?" by Todd Sherman is about children behaviour, which Is composed in humourous way by showcasing their nature, how they act according to the situation where sometimes action and intension have different meanings.

I will definitely read this. 8th graders truly are hilarious most of the time and sometimes so innocent in being witty. It's interesting to see their perspective on things we might not even worry about anymore. Thanks for a great review. Congrats on BOTD.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading the excerpt from this book. Since it's a collection of quotes, it is a fast and fun read. I really want to read this book (less than $2 on Kindle) not just because of that, but also because it reminds me of my mom. This is just the type of book she'd choose to read to me whenever I was sick.

Children usually have an open minded, curious view point of life. They have the gift of imagination and free expression without feeling shackled by the norms of society. This book captures that by giving fascinating stories and experiences involving children.

To be honest, the "compilation of quotes from children" isn't exactly my idea of fun. I agree that there can be many "funny, sometimes sarcastic, and often off-the-wall things the kids said", but it doesn't align with my sense of humor, since often they are consequences of lacking education or upbringing, so the blame is on parents and hardly is a laughing matter.

Sounds like an enjoyable book for optimistic parents and teachers who love spending time with kinda naughty children. You can feel how much impact the author made towards the school children. They are living the dream!

It's a reminder that despite the difficulties they may face in their education, humor and genuine connection with others can be the best tools for learning and growing.

“What Did They Say?: Observations from Eighth-Grade Students” by Todd Sherman is a very entertaining story that made me think back to when I was in eighth grade and I wish I had a teacher like Todd Sherman. Todd made learning fun and his students really caught on with the “Quote of the Day” he started and encouraged the students to come to class with a quote they could share with the class. He would then have it posted on the board in the front of the classroom. The sample included many of these quotes and who came up with them. Some are funny while others will make readers stop and think about the message. Todd found that 8th graders sometimes say the strangest things, but he never made fun of the student no matter how silly it was. The bond he established with his students continued after the students graduated and went on to high school and the rest of their lives. This is a wonderful book that parents will really enjoy and think about some of the crazy things their children have said. Students in high school will also enjoy this book since they will remember things they have said or heard in class. I highly recommend this book that includes more than 600 funny comments made by from eighth-graders during Todd’s 13 years of teaching eighth-grade.

The book's ability to capture the humor and spontaneity of eighth-grade students makes it an engaging and lighthearted read, especially for those who have experience with kids of that age.

We are used to reading quotes from great philosophers and prominent people in society. It's about time we gleaned from the wisdom of eight-graders. I'm already pumped up about this book and its uniqueness.

It takes only a great teacher to know great kids. I would like to read What Did They Say?" by Todd Sherman to learn more about the quotes stated therein.

Thanks for a well written review. The review accomplished exactly what a review is supposed to do, get me interested or disinterested in reading the book. The reviewer did a great job highlighting what made the book appealing, and explained what drew them to this book in the first place. Having kids myself I will probably be picking this book up as well.

Thank you for your thoughtful review! I’m thrilled to hear that “What Did They Say?” resonated with you and brought laughter. It’s heartwarming to know that the care put into capturing those moments was appreciated, especially as a parent of teenagers.
