Racism is a truth that continues to happen all around the world. In one corner, there is awareness and too much political correctness, and in another, murders and stabbings because of racism. Congratulations on the BOTD and best wishes.

I'm glad he made the best with what opportunities he had. That's awful that racism still exists and limits what people can do because of it. It sounds like a good book to get some insight into the situation.

I have a experienced subtle racism and it's sad. It must have been heartbreaking for Dr. Douglas. I hope to read his exact experiences. Nice review.

Until you’ve been there, it’s hard to understand the damaging effect racism can have on someone indeed. I believe that people are discriminated against for more reasons than just color or nationality. This book sounds like an up close and personal encounter of how harsh racism can be: great review and 5-star book.

"Defining Moments of a Free Man from a Black Stream" by Dr. Frank L. Douglas is a well written memoir of a man born in British Guiana that moved to the U.S. for his college and Cornell University medical school education. Sadly, he experienced culture shock and racial discrimination at levels he never expected. After medical school he joined the Johns Hopkins Hospital where he became a Clinical Research Associate and overcame many obstacles while building his career. Because of the racial discrimination he realized that the American Dream was not the same for people of color. An eye-opening story that should be read by all.

Many people experience culture shock when they encounter new cultures for the first time. While this is a normal human experience, being a victim of racism was wrong. I'd love to see how the author navigated this.

Douglas journey of an African American looks really interesting it's quite an honor for him to get a chance to go to study in the US and despite all the obstacles he faces it doesn't stop him for working hard to attain his life's accomplishment that is truly a remarkable journey one not only filled with joy but with also life's up and down moments.
