America in Context: A Pursuit of the Exemplary by Bob Dowell is a very short read, but it is full of substance. In the book, the author gives a ‘’tour’’ of key moments in America’s history that he considers to be examples of people ‘’nudging’’ or empowering the quest of the pursuit of the exemplary, which, according to the book, basically means fulfilling America’s original vision of a better society. In eight ‘’stops’’, we get useful information with brief explanations of how America’s original vision is in danger and how everyone can contribute to getting back on track.

This vision proposes an ideal directly from the Declaration of Independence, where all citizens are equal in the eyes of God, and therefore, all citizens should have the same rights and work together to build a better America.

From Thomas Jefferson to Abraham Lincoln to Martin Luther King Jr., among others, the author analyzes famous speeches and ideals that ‘’nudged’’ America to the exemplary. The author explains how, ultimately, they are all related, how they are based on God and democracy, and how, if all citizens contribute to this mission, a better country can be built.

I’m giving the book 5 out of 5 stars. I didn’t find anything that I disliked about the book, and I like how it sends a strong message of unity based on God’s teachings and equality.

Given the political climate and the very clear division America is living in right now, I would recommend this book to all Americans, and without getting too political, I even think both Democrats and Republicans, if they actually cared, would find the information in this book eye-opening. But not only Americans would benefit from the information; I think anyone who reads the book can find a strong message and apply it to their lives.

It is good to read that the author's intention is for all Americans to go back to the ancient paths, particularly the vision of an exemplary nation, where all are equal before the law. I am also happy that everyone will find a lesson that would be applicable to their lives. Thanks for this amazing review, @Brayan Uribe.
