This is one of those books that will change your life and perspective on situations when you're done reading. Lynn Bruines, the author, shared her personal stories, which she teaches and shows us different techniques for manoeuvring difficult situations.

To fully grasp the lesson behind this book, Secrets of a Social Butterfly, you need to understand the author's personality. She is someone who lives life to the fullest. Constantly learning, enjoying, and adapting to situations. This lifestyle did not start as an adult; she built these as a survival skill while still a young student. The book begins with her going on a trip with her partner, and she takes a trip down memory lane. Despite understanding the question, she remembers her school days and how she struggled with passing exams. She remembered the days when she was bullied and how a better teacher-student relationship would have made her schooldays easier. Her story continues with how her dream school rejected her. However, resilience pushed her, and she gained practical hospitality experience.

She further teaches the importance of connecting with people and even situations on a human level. She talks about her issues, especially those about her health. She had suffered from ADHD, dyslexia, and even kidney disease. At this moment, she realised that difficult situations are part of the forces that push a person to grow. The author shares life-changing memories of her and how they shaped her into who she is today and helped her build a successful career.

The author's raw honesty is a major strength of this book. This is because the author's experiences were not only relatable but also offered me a sense of comfort. The part where she talked about understanding a subject but still not doing well on the exam reminded me of my school days. I also like that the author taught herself survival skills, such as vigilance, which is one skill that helps her even in the corporate world. The author wrote this book through storytelling, making reading easier and more enjoyable. I learned that resilience could take you anywhere if you don't give up. The author also teaches real-life skills such as negotiating without confrontation and reading a room. Although these might look unimportant, they could make or mar your relationship, especially with people you meet for the first time.

Although this book is well written, the only drawback is that the stories are non-linear. The sudden changes in time periods and reflections made it a little confusing. However, this did not take away from the message the author intended to convey. Despite the downside, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. This is because the order in which the author told her story did not impact the message. I recommend this book to entrepreneurs and people currently building their careers.

I once read a book titled Corners, and what the author is asserting her is very true; life is packed with challenges and only resilience and the agility will help one to navigate safely through the storms. It is 'through the storms' because at times there is no way around them. It would appear many challenges in past always built our capacity to handle the present and the future more bravely. What made this book even more outstanding is her personal stories and how relatable they were to the average person. Thank you for your comment.
