I found the cover scene hard to look at initially. I would turn the book over when I wasn’t reading it so I wouldn’t have to see it: such a horrific picture. After reading the book, I think it was an excellent choice for the cover. I became desensitized to the scene after a while (hmmm). It encapsulated Springer’s experience in Vietnam--a larger-than-life reminder of the atrocities back home when he was fighting for that same country.

I almost always judge a book by its cover. That being said, after seeing this artwork made me initially think it would not be a book I am interested in. I now know what the contents contain and I understand . However, if I did not read anything at all and just viewed the picture, then I would definately not be interested..

This book's cover, at the first glance, felt confusing to me. As I read the whole book, things gradually started to become clear. The cover beautifully shows different themes of oppression, mainly racism. I feel it is quite wisely illustrated.

At first, the cover was a little bit confusing, but after reading the book I think book cover portrays the content in the book mostly racism.

The book cover pass the idea of racism, being black is not a crime so when other people treat you bad for being the black. You should not be sad but feel very special.

The cover not quite correlates with the story. I agree that it depicts racism, but at first I don't realize that the narrative is about Vietnam War. I think it would be better if next time the author uses cover that really reflects the inside of the book (including war background with Asian/Vietnamese figure)

I liked the cover because I immediately knew the book would be about injustices and racism seeing that it was a black woman being clobbered.

Well this is a very sensitive cover to me as it portrayed racism during the Vietnam war. It clearly portrayed how black are treated as it shows a woman been beaten by a police man and a black man watches him.

I could tell a lot from the cover. It predicts what is going to be found in the writing. For example racism is evident. I think it is totally valid.

I like the cover, most especially the color used. It portrayed the themes of the book in a summarized manner.

The cover is just perfect. It depicts all themes present, which is basically racism. Although one may not necessarily know this from the start. It's a great one.

the cover is little confusing. I didn't like that blue color. I think it should have more green color instead of that blue that gives impression that everything going around the outer space and not inside planet

The cover explained one of main theme of the book very well which is racism. Where a black woman is being beaten and some people were watching including a black man. It doesn't only show the maltreatment given to blacks during the Vietnam War but also the fear and helplessness of blacks during that time.

The cover at first glance does not clearly reflect the contents of the book. His experience is in Vietnam not America. It's misleading.

The cover of the book gives a pretty good indication of what the book is about. Additionally, it shows the author's attitude toward the subject of the book quite clearly.
