What can you say about the uniqueness of "Brandy, Ballad of a Pirate Princess" from the other pirate stories?

I think the best original feature was the way the author addressed the issue of slave trafficking. It was the first time I heard about pirates associated with it, so it was a surprise.

There were a few things that set this pirate story apart from others. First, Brandy's mother had a lot of power and commanded respect from the other pirates, not because of who her husband was, but because of who she was. Next, it's unusual to hear about a woman on a pirate ship and I've never heard of a family on a pirate ship. This book addresses the slave trade. Also, the story relates life in a port town.

I don't have any vast experience with pirate books, but you don't often see them as historical pieces, right? they seem more often to fall within the 'Fables' category.

I have previously read Evans and Friends Meet the Pirate before this book. Though not of the same genre, the only difference I noticed is the slaves trading.

Most pirates stories I have come across usually had the pirates moving illegal arms or drugs. However in this book, the pirates were involved in slave trade. I found that to be unique.

I thought the inclusion of governmental use of pirates was interesting! Usually they are always shown as cast off by everyone, but showing that corrupt government officials used them to their advantage was something I never thought of.

The novel portrays a female as the head of a pirate ship and this is the first time I have read a pirate book involving family life, love and slavery.

In pirate stories, men are usually the lead characters. This is not the case in this novel. In this book, women are the lead characters. As well, this is the first time that I am reading a pirate story that involves the slave trade.

This is more or less the first pirate book I've read, and I was quite surprised to find a family of pirates on the high sea. I guess I never thought about where pirates raise their children.

I really don’t like pirate stories. I initially only read this because it was BOTM even though I ended up really liking it. From what I remember, however, it’s much less bloody and focuses more on Brandy and Skinner’s life aside from piracy.

I have read some history books on pirates. But, what makes this book unique is the plot. When I think of pirates, what comes to my mind is single men who are rough looking. I've never thought of them as family men, and I've never read of training a child, a girl child, to be precise as a pirate.

Firstly it is the enslavement, i have never had of any pirates story about it and lastly i'm used to men being the hero, but in this case it was a different story.

Most pirate stories show pirates dealing in arms and drug trade. But this story showed pirates getting involved in slave trade. Oh I think it was also in " The Chronicles of Narnia"
