"Swimming in a Sea of Stars" by Julie Wright

Post by Rahul Singh 29 »

"Swimming in a Sea of Stars" by Julie Wright delves into the lives of five high school students facing challenging circumstances, including the protagonist, Addison, who recently survived a suicide attempt. Through a first-person epistolary format and third-person narratives, the book explores their interconnected struggles, from relationship issues to family secrets and abuse. While the story tackles important themes of empathy and the impact of our actions on others, it occasionally feels heavy-handed in delivering its hopeful message. The characters are well-developed, and their diverse backgrounds add depth to the narrative. Overall, "Swimming in a Sea of Stars" offers a poignant glimpse into the lives of these young individuals and their quest for meaningful connections in a complex world.
Life is a play where we are the actors and the audience, We laugh and cry, love and hate, create and destroy,
We seek to know ourselves and others, to belong and to be free, We accept what we can and change what we must.

I really love how the author gives a glimpse of each of the characters' lives and backgrounds. It gives the book a well-rounded feel which helps the reader follow and understand the plot better.

I will not be surprised to see this book on bookstagram and booktok. The enthralling narration exploits the reader's emotions just delicately enough.

"What were you before you metme?"
" I think Iwas drowning."
"And what are you now?"
"Water."
(Guess the author and book)
