Water for Elephants (Carrier Club)

I am trying to set up a discussion forum for our family book club. This is an introductory test message. I wish I could restrict the club to only certain members....i.e. have it not be 'publicly viewable'.

Are you saying that you want to have a private forum on here? I can do that for you.

You can-please tell me how

That would be terrific-how would we arrange that?

I can create a user group, and I can create a forum category that would only display to people who are in the user group. What do you want the name of the forum category and user group to be?

I would like the name of the Forum category and User Group to be "Carrier Club".

*Please let me know when/if this has been set up. I am eager to start using it! Thank you!

Carrie,

I have created the forum and a user group. I named both Carrier Club. You are the moderator of the forum and user group. You can manually add members to the group by going to the user group control panel. Forum users can request to join the group, but you must approve them before they will be a member.

Only members of the user group "Carrier Club" can see the forum or post in it.

I set the group as "open," but you can change that. Here are the three types from which you can choose:
Open - All users may see the group and group members. Users may request membership to this group. For more information, see 4.4.1 Joining a Group.

Closed - All users may see the group and group members. Users may not request membership to the group, but may be added by the group moderator.

Hidden - The group and its members are not visible to normal users. Users may be added by the group moderator. If a hidden group is moderator of a forum, the group will show up in the Moderators list.
You can manage the group and other users can request to join by clicking the "Usergroups" link in the header of the forums and then clicking the button that says "View Information" for the Carrier Group.

If you have any questions, please ask me.

Thanks,
Scott
