I felt like the overall plot did not benefit from some side stories, like death of the young prince in the other city, entire part involving Princess Dorinda and the death of the protester during the equinox festival. It felt irrelevant and detached from the rest of the plot.

I think what could enhance the book is the scene in the beginning of the book. The scene opened up to dead bodies everywhere in the camp. I thought a good flashback would have been great to eliminate the immediate questions I was asking myself. For example, who attacked the camp and why? I had so many other questions as well.
