Their friendship likely pushes Lea outside her comfort zone. Her new friend might have different interests or experiences, broadening Lea's perspective and helping her grow.

Lea is dealing with her parents' separation, which can be a lonely experience. Her friendship with her classmate provides her with companionship and a sense of belonging, helping her navigate difficult emotions.

During Lea's mother's absence, she received support from her aunt, her new friend, and her mother, who was a Liberian. Also, Lea received support from the historians when they discovered the treasure on the beach. I think Lea's summer turned into a great one in the end.
