While it was happening she just froze. I probably would too if I was alone and some strange little girl appeared in front of me out of nowhere. She definitely seemed calmer about it than I would have been. After seeing that I would avoid that area and being alone in general.

I felt that she had the right response. Lea is young and, therefore, has more of a tendency to believe what she sees with the 'flight or fight' response that an adult might have, being delayed. Also, what little girl doesn't want to see another little girl of the same age? In this respect, I thought it was natural that she was curious. Perhaps it would have been different if it were an old man or an adult woman.

Children are very curious, unlike adults. So her reaction was palpable. I'm sure an adult would have screamed and ran.

Depending on Lea's personality, she might feel determined to unravel the mystery behind the ghost. The sighting could fuel her investigation into the "Sandpeople" legend.

Lea's interest in the "Sandpeople" legend might lead her curiosity to overcome her fear. She might be curious about the ghost's identity and what it wants. Cheryl Kerr, likely portrays Lea's reaction in a way that is consistent with her character development throughout the story.
