One thing I particularly like is the setting on the Gulf of Mexico. Having a cottage so near the ocean and the time to explore at leisure is a wonderful way to spend a summer. The setting is a necessary characteristic of the story, but if there had been no mysterious sand people, Lea could still have had a great summer.

I agree, I enjoyed that Lea got to explore new areas, learn about different cultures, and have new experiences that helped her grow.

What I liked most about the book was the location of her aunt's home. Also, I like when Lea's mom reunites with her daughter. Her mom looks refreshed and ready to take control of her life.
