Insofar as the word 'should' even has meaning, then we must say that the past is exactly as it should be, everything that happened should have happened, and everything that should happen will happen

The young Zasroth said to his father, about humans: “I think so. I think… I think I’d like to meet one someday.” Zasroth smiled and looked out the window, past the homes and hills and the borders into the unknown lands beyond even that. “Do you think we could ever live with them?”. Thus us not a particularly memorable quote, but, to , it’s key in the book’s development.

"No one is victorious in war" was my favorite quote because it is so true. Even those who win have battle scars for years to come.

The book is absolutely brilliant for older children, and the knowledge that there will be a sequel will be good news for many. The anticipatory last sentence of this first in the series, ‘Storm clouds thundered above, and Astaroth let out a deafening roar that pierced the sky’ is satisfying as an ending and a connection to a new beginning.

Phrases like 'Storm clouds thundered,' and 'deafening roar that pierced the sky,' raises my pulse in anticipation. I loved it. Thanks for sharing.

Zasroth expresses his desire to meet humans and wonders if they could ever live together, a quote crucial to the book's growth, as he contemplates the unknown.

The quote that stands out for me in this book is "No one is victorious in war." The politics of war only have soldiers from both ends losing, as politicians become the biggest beneficiaries. Mothers burry their sons, wives become widowed and children are orphaned before they even bud into adulthood.
The mind adapts and converts to its own purposes the obstacle to our acting. The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way. - Marcus Aurelius

Having worked at a pharmaceutical company before, I really like the line "After butchering the names of several (medical vials) with more syllables than he had life issues, he panicked." I find it very clever and accurate!

I love that quote too. It really captures the lasting impact of conflict, both physically and emotionally. It reminds us that even in victory, there’s a heavy cost, and the true consequences of war linger long after the fighting stops.
