Why do you think the "Dumb" orphans in the Bundu Bunch were so resourceful?

Post by Gerry Steen »

I was amazed at how resourceful these orphans were, in spite of the fact that they were not privileged like other kids with the learning tools of school and adult guidance. I feel that for survival purposes they quickly realized that they had to rely on each other's innate abilities. Also, the saying that "Necessity is the mother of invention" is true. Ideas of adopting a pet mongoose to ward off poisonous snakes, and venturing into a cave to divert water, were brilliant! What are your thoughts on these children's resourcefulness?

They were resourceful because they did not waste their time complaining that they were less privileged. I was impressed by how they obtained the resources for studying and utilized a teacher from the group. The "Dumb" Orphans have proven to us that it is not what you have that matters but how you use it.

I was so impressed by their resourcefulness! Part of it was the fact that they were children and eager to play and do things besides chores, so they found quicker solutions. Part of it was they had experience, even at a young age, that most adults didn’t have. Add that to their creative minds and their passion for learning and you get a resourceful group of children!
