Unfortunately, i have not experienced the sights and foods of North Carolina. I will have to some day. The first thing I will do is visit the Pitt County Agricultural Center and order fried chicken for lunch.

Shared the recipe this morning with a friend. She is going to make it for their Sunday luncheons, which usually involve about 20 people. You never know what tidbit might come out of a book.

My potato salad is simple, but it calls for celery seed. My sister-inlaw saved me one day from putting in mustard seed instead. The recipe, I suppose, is only as good as the cook. I hope not to eat too many funeral potatoes. It makes the story seem real to me when the people are eating their local foods. It's something I enjoy in a book, and hey, no calories. Bonus!

I am definitely familiar with Greenville, NC. I live in Beaufort County which is right next to Pitt County in North Carolina. I work in Washington, NC which is a 30 minute drive to Greenville, NC. The writer was right on the money as far as the exact location/address of the Pitt County Arboretum and the Detention Center which is on Old Creek Road. That area has a bunch of government offices. One of the reasons why I was vested in reading the book was the setting.
