I have several favorite South American authors, Gabriel Garcia Marquez is one of my favorites and although his most popular novel is One Hundred Years of Solitude my personal favorite is News of a Kidnapping.Isabel Allende was the first author I have read everything by she is amazing, her stories are compelling and wonderful. If you decide to read her I recommend Ines of My Soul it's my favorite it tells the story of the Independence of Chile the country where she is from in the perspective of a woman who helped achieve this goal.
“And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.” Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince

LOVE Isabel Allende! My favorite author of all time... discovered her in college and I've been hooked since. If you like her, you should read julia alvarez (dominican). I named my daughter Camila bc of In the Name of Salome!... And I agree south/Latin Americans write so passionately about their countries, and culture definitely comes through in a good way!

I love reading authors from different cultures than my own. I look forward to investigating some of these suggestions! Thanks!
