Stefan Zweig

Post by Fran »

To my shame I've only just discovered Stefan Zweig .... somewhere along the line someone recommended The Post Office Girl to me & it went on my TBR list ... delighted I finally got to it.
He was such a beautiful writer .... 'this ecstatic human being has a first inkling that the soul is made of stuff so mysteriously elastic that a single event can make it big enough to contain the infinite' .... sublime!

I wish my German was up to reading it in the original but Joel Rotenberg seems to have done him justice in this translation.

Anyone else a fan?

read The Royal Game a while back and have had Zweig on my read-again list for a few years now (he's in my preferred register of experimental literature) - I'll check out The Post Office Girl

I don't know if I could call myself a fan as I have only red two of his books: 'Mary, Queen of Scots' and 'Confusion of Feelings'. I Enjoyed both and will certainly reade some more...
