** Salmon rissole Spoiler Alert **

Maudster, I attempted to cook us up some Salmon rissoles last night.

One word......DISASTER!!!!

The first batch I put in way too early and then I had the gas too high so the next ones burnt really quickly. Ah well, it's all a learning experience, next time I will get them right and get more salmon in case I stuff up. I must admit that I am a very average cook.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend. :D :D

Oh dear, Gannon, I think I'll have to loan you my grandmother's 1954 CWA cookbook. Although admittedly I 'go it alone' and make my own version. First, the spuds are pre-cooked, mashed with butter and milk, peas added and lastly the salmon is stirred in. I pat this mixture into balls, roll in whisked eggs, bread crumbs and put into an oiled frying pan so I'm really just browning them.

I wonder if Jasper Fforde has ever eaten Salmon Rissoles with a nice garden salad?

In fact, I don't think Thursday Next has ever gone into a recipe book. Now, there's an interesting idea!

That is exactly the same way my gran would cook them, minus the peas. I am going to give it another try, will let you know how they turn out.

Hmmmm, Thursday going into a cook book. Very interesting indeed. :D

I have just started "First among sequels" but there seems to be a bit of a gap. The last book I read was "Well of Lost Plots" where Friday was a toddler.... now he is a moody teenager with 2 sisters. Did I miss something or all Ok?

Yes, Primrose, our Fran is right. Keep going! Friday has a very important part to play and you will need all your concentration. I know you can do it!

This synopsis snippet may help:

"Fourteen years after Thursday Next pegged out at Superhoop '88, her Jurisfiction job has been downgraded due to a potential conflict of interest, since her previous adventures are now themselves in print. Thursday's time is spent worrying about her teenage son Friday and tutoring new recruits."

And my favourite bit: "Goliath have perfected a 22-seater Prose Portal Luxury Coach and plan on taking literary tourists on a BookWorld holiday to the works of Jane Austen." If only.....

Ah, that takes me back. I wish I could read it for the first time again. :D

I, too, was dismayed that Uncle Mycroft is a ghost (or reactualised, a Nonrecurring Informative Phantasm whose invention has been stolen) but he serves a very useful purpose when Thursday has surreal conversations with him.

Just a snippet I stumbled across:

"Welcome to the Thursday Next series Index page. To find out various extra features and goodies that relate to the books, please use the time-honoured mouse click method to magically whisk you to a mystical land of astonishment and wonder..*

* Astonishment and Wonder may not be available in all territories. See your Imagination Service Provider for details."

Just finished First Among Sequels. Loved it. One of my favorites. I get now why Mycroft needed to be a ghost, I would have preferred him to be a sticking around kind of ghost instead of a 3 message ghost but there you go. I miss Mycroft.
Loved the storyline about Jenny so beautiful and so funny at the same time. So cleverly written.
Friday was a worry.....but hey, it all worked out in the end.
Sadly reality TV has already taken over books in so many peoples lives... and they are the poorer for it.

Your post reminded me that it's almost twelve months since I read a Jasper book - The Fourth Bear was the last I read - I really must get back to him.
