Moonstruck, always great to hear from another Ffordean fan. Guess we are a bit odder than most readers!
But the way he writes is something special. Want to review "Shades Of Grey"?

If US readers are keen, in September 2013 there's the USA Publication of Dragon Slayer 2: "Song Of The Quarkbeast".
And Jasper is doing a two week USA Tour between the 7th and 22nd September, ending at The National Book Festival
at the Library of Congress, Washington DC. Really wish I could go to that one.....

For the British, on 21st to 23rd June 2013 he'll be at Winchester Writer's Festival, and on Saturday July 13th you can catch him at Caerleon Arts Festival, near Newport, South Wales. Get ready with some humorous questions.

Future dates
October 2042: 81-year-old Fforde talks to other members of old people's home: "I used to be a novelist, no really,
I did. Is it lunchtime?" More details TBA.

July 2175: Semi-lifelike cloned Ffordesque replicant to tour Gamma Quadrant in the Cygnus Cluster. More TBA.

I'm not responsible for the above dates - but they gave me a chuckle.

@Maud
Well done .... I'm looking forward to attending some of those future dates

Just for a laugh & to discredit skimming ... I read through your post & I went "Not like Maud to get her facts wrong - no way is Jasper 81 sure didn't I watch that clip of him striding out across the Welsh hills with his dog" ............ then I paid attention &

@Maud, sure, I'll review it very soon! I was planning to write about it in my blog, but, argh....school!! I want to do justice to such an amazing book :)

Thanks for the tour dates! I'd absolutely *love* to meet him! And I noticed your favorite book is "The Eyre Affair". That's next on my reading list! :)

And lol! The future dates- so typical of Fforde!
@Maud and Fran, love the quotes in your signatures! :D

Thanks, Moonstuck! You'll have to choose your own signature quote. You will recognised these:

"The safest course was actually the simplest - do nothing at all and hope everything turned out for the best. It wasn't a great plan, but it had the benefits of simplicity and a long tradition.”
― Jasper Fforde Shades of Grey.
or
“Almost anything can be improved with the addition of bacon.”
― Jasper Fforde Shades of Grey.
or
"The best lies to tell are the ones people want to believe.”
― Jasper Fforde Shades of Grey.
or
"A surfeit of information often hides an untruth, he said, with annoying clarity.”
― Jasper Fforde Shades of Grey.

Have you started my favourite "The Eyre Affair" yet?

Enjoyed your post, Socks, especially the 'love, love, love' part - it sounds just like me!

Now, pray tell, why do you see Thursday Next as your sister? I'm intrigued. In a good way. I've never thought of her compatibility with me, e.g. relationship. I guess I see her more as a friend. The sort of friend who does weird things and tells you about them after work in a wine bar.

He lives, he lives, long live Gannon!!!!! All hail Gannon The Great Of Queenslandia!!!!!(Screamed when I saw your name on the Forum   )

I was going to send either a Roman Emperor or Thursday Next to search for you. Thank goodness I didn't have to - it would have been expensive - and I doubt even they could find you. From what you posted on the other thread, it was the ultimate getaway holiday. Remember the line from Gilligan's Island? No phones, no lights, no motor cars? You are one tough dude, I don't know many people who could do without electronic necessities these days. Did you have a fridge for your 'catch of the day'?

And the BIG question (apart from 'have you shaved that beard off') did you READ any good books?

Maud, Maud, Maud it is so good to hear from you again!! I really missed ya! :D

I am going to ruin it here. We did have a fridge and we did have a TV, just to know what was going on in the world. You have no idea how thrilling it was to go out lay down on the beach and look at the millions and millions of stars, (apart from all the ghost crabs and sandflies, haha).

In all that time I only read three books and they are the first three books in the "Song of Fire and Ice" series. But our neighbour was collecting our mail and I have about twenty books now to read. It was like Christmas opening them up, because I had forgotten which books I had ordered. I have some real beauties to read.

The beard! Hahaha, I still have it and tonight we had pizza and I have all bits of food in it, hahahaha, I know that sounds so gross. It is going tomorrow. It will probably take me an hour to shave it all off. :D

Enough about me. How have you been? Well, I hope. What have you been reading? Any recommendations?

I must confess that it does feel really good to be posting again. However I really recommend that everybody at some time should get away from all the social media and twitter, facebook, etc and experience how calm and peaceful it is. Ahh the Serenity!! :D

Well until next time Maud. STAY CLASSY!! (Anchorman 2 is coming out, can't wait!) :D

Aw, Gannon, here's me thinking you dug a hole in the sand dunes and hunkered down . I'll forgive the fridge (or chilly bin as our Kiwi friends say) but if one forsakes Twitter, etc, one should shun the gloom-and-doom of television.
And hasn't there been a lot of G&D lately .

Has the beard gone? If not, can we expect a photo? Sans food of course. Please.....

This is where I'd like to say I'm reading the newest Jasper Fforde book but, alas, I am not. No news on the Thursday Next front but I'm working on it! A novel which I've just started, and which took me by surprise, is "The Fix" by Nick Earls. I've read some of his other books (you'll remember he's a Queensland writer of considerable standing) but this one is a little different.

Ciao for now, my friend :D.

Howdy Howdy Maud!

The beard, I am happy to say has gone, and there is no way in the world I am letting a picture of it (it was almost alive  ) get out onto the net. However I am sure Hades has some pics and she has stitched me up before so who knows.

I have been caught up in the "Game of Thrones" hype. I never thought I was going to read the books, but I am really enjoying them. An amazing amount of characters and storylines leaves you behind unless you are concentrating. I must say that I am also impressed by the dvd series. I don't know what sort of budget they are working with but it is well done and remains very faithful to the books.

I think I am going to buy a copy of "And the Mountains Echoed" by Khaled Hosseini. I was a big fan of "The Kite Runner" and "A Thousand Splendid Suns". Have you read them? Did you like them?

I don't think I have read any "Nick Earls". Seeing as he is a proud Queenslander (State of Origin, tomorrow night) I will have to take a look.

There is a nice little chill in the air and winter is coming. Yayyyyyyyy!!! :D :D

Well until next time get out the doona and stay warm. (I had a dream that it snowed in Brissie) :D

I work with a bloke who loves "Game Of Thrones" both the books and the DVDs and think he should be on a quiz show with this as his 'special subject'. You'd both blitz the field. You could be his back-up call. Or he could be your back-up call! Can't see myself reading them in the near future :| but think George R.R. Martin's name should be mentioned more often. Yes, I've read "The Kite Runner" and love Khaled Hosseini's style. Buy that third book!

Just in case people are wondering, here are the match dates of our State Of Origin rugby league football series
when Queensland versus New South Wales:
Game 1: ANZ Stadium, Sydney – June 5
Game 2: Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane – June 26 - it will never snow in Brisbane, Gannon!
Game 3: ANZ Stadium, Sydney – July 17

And for the Mods, a Jasper Fforde snippet. For those lucky readers in UK, he will be making a guest appearance on the weekend of 21st to 23rd June 2013 at Winchester Writer's Festival. And for those who haven't the foggiest idea what this JF thread is all about, there's The Thursday Next Collection (Books 1-3) "Eyre Affair" "Lost In A Good Book" "Well Of Lost Plots" an omnibus edition of literary detective Thursday Next's BookWorld adventures by Jasper Fforde.

This post could be misconstrued as an advertisement (because there's no new books forthcoming) but in actual fact it's the rantings of a crazed fan :!:.
