Oh Coldfire you should try getting your writings published, I am sure they will do great, no doubts there!!
I agree, Zara is indeed a lovely name and that girl seems so innocent and cute in your writing..

Many thanks for your very kind comments, Karen!

Writing is just a sideline for me, because I am tied up with other work. The only book I've had published was on accounting software, but various magazines have published my freelance articles on several topics.

An editor from one women's magazine, who I met socially, did invite me to try my hand at contributing there. They published some of my stuff. The funny thing was that they decided I had to write under a female name.

So --- without consulting me --- they gave me the pen-name Charlotte. If I were a girl, I don't think Charlotte would suit me anyway. I'd be more of a Maria or a Jane, a Geraldine or a Leanne. Charlotte makes me think of a buxom girl with sensible red cotton underwear. (Well, I don't know why!)

Have you tried writing yourself?

Not so cute at the moment. She's having a horrible "Little Miss" tantrum. She is 9, and I've been trying her on IQ tests for 11 year olds. She is incandescent with rage that she cannot get them all right first time!

Zara didn't make me mad. I just had to spend 20 minutes calming her down. Then she finished the IQ test easily. She's a bit highly strung, like a pedigree horse. She likes things to be perfect.

Very proud. But perfectionists can be awful to live with. Trauma and drama every time anything goes wrong. Her twin brother is much more easy-going.

Yeah I agree to this. We had this French teacher who had this OCD... It was too difficult to come up with his expectations.. Is this the case with Zara too? What's the twin's name?

Zara reminds me of the words from the song: "But I could've told you, Vincent, this world was never meant for one as beautiful as you."

Her twin is Sam. He had such a bad cold this morning that I kept him off school. He had such a tantrum this afternoon that I had to take him into school. Does Sam like school, you might ask? Ha, ha, ROFL. They are having the trials to select the boys for the school football club this afternoon!

The Pope drove past within 60 yards of our house, on his way from Westminster Abbey to the place he's staying in Wimbledon. If we had been forewarned, we would probably have lined the route and waved. We aren't even Catholic. Professor Richard Dawkins, eat your atheist heart out!

You were talking about showing me how to bake cookies several posts back.

My little girl, Zara, and I baked some cookies on Sunday. "Take packet of Betty Crocker chocolate-chip cookie mix,"... etc. My imagination just produced a future-scope...

Zara: "Daddy, who is this lady in our kitchen?"

Me: "Darling, let me introduce Daddy's new girlfriend, Laci. You are going to be such friends. Laci is going to teach you how to bake proper cookies like a grown-up lady."

Zara: "How wonderful! A grown-up lady to be my friend!"

Me: "If we are really nice to Laci, she might stay and be your new Mommy."

Zara: "What does that word 'Mommy' mean?"

Me: "It is American for 'Mummy'. Laci is from America, like the Simpsons."

Zara: "Daddy, how can we be nice to Laci so she stays?"

Me: "Spend lots and lots of money on Laci, and keep telling her how beautiful she is. After a while, her brains will turn to Jell-O, and Laci will think that Daddy looks like Brad Pitt, only better."

Zara: "Daddy, what is 'Jell-O'?"

Me: "American for 'jelly', dear. When Americans say 'jelly', it's what we call 'jam'. Don't worry. You'll soon be bilingual."

Zara: "Daddy, who is Brad Pitt?"

Me: "Like Prince Charming, but with an American accent."

Zara: "Daddy, I am a truthful little girl. I can't really see much of Laci, so it is difficult to honestly say that I think she is beautiful. Why is Laci wearing a protective suit, like Homer Simpson wears in Mr Burns' atomic power plant in the opening scenes?"

Laci (muffled voice): "To keep me safe from little-girl germs."

Zara: "Daddy, Laci's voice was all muffled and I couldn't hear what Laci said. Why is Laci wearing that protective suit?"

Me: "Laci is from America, darling, like Homer Simpson. They dress different there."

Zara: "So Laci can help me grow up like Lisa Simpson? That will be wonderful!"

And they all lived happily ever after...
I've definitely missed something in this thread, but this made me laugh so hard!

I think the person who wrote it was a man. I don't think a woman would say something like "touchy feely stuff."
