I loved both series, but I have to choose JK Rowling and the Harry Potter series. I've read the entire series several times and still enjoy reading the books after all this time.

I definitely enjoyed both authors' writing style--while Collins are great with Politics in the Hunger Games, she was also great with fantasy in Gregor the Overlander series. I haven't read Rowling's stuff other than the Harry Potter series, so I would have to say Collins for this time! :D

I would go J K Rowling – longer, more complex, and I prefer the style (I would argue that her books are better written). Also, fell in love with HP years before HG, so I may be a bit biased...

A tough choice..... But then it's Suzanne Collins for me! I know there can be no comparison between these two great personalities but then it's because of hte concept and stuff

I am in love with Harry Potter written by J.K. Rowling. The books were so imaginative. They took you to a whole new world that you could see, smell, taste and feel. I read the first book when I was in high school and it first came out. Every other book that was published after that I was at the book store for the midnight release party. I am dying to go to Harry Potter land in Florida. I even got a Harry Potter tattoo that says "I solemnly swear that I am up to no good" with a picture of Hedwig. With that being said I would say it is my favorite series ever.
The Hunger Games series were good. I never would have imagined enjoying books where children have to kill each other off but they were pretty suspenseful.

This sounds like a Hunger Games vs. Harry Potter question =) I can only speak from a Hunger Games and Gregor the Overlander vs. Harry Potter standpoint. I read Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games and I thoroughly disliked her writing style. Hated it really. Her sentences were awkward at times and I repeatedly had to read the same sentences to comprehend their meanings. I felt that her plot was rather predictable as well. However, I also read Gregor the Overlander. Though I enjoyed these books more, I did not enjoy them enough to read the last two books of the series. I was not allowed to read J.K. Rowling's series, and once I was old enough to read them despite my parent's wishes, I was opposed to the hype that surrounded them. I didn't want to join the bandwagon so late in the game, as all of my friends had grown up reading these books. However, a few weeks ago I decided to finally read the Harry Potter series. I don't know how any of Rowling's other works are written in comparison, but I love these books. I'm about 150 pages away from finishing the series. The plot is so well woven it's inspiring. As far as movies are concerned, Catching Fire wins my vote. As far as authors voicing opinions after the fast: I know nothing of Collins, but Rowling sure doesn't get my vote. When it's all said and done, I'd give my support to Rowling though!

J.K Rowling.

This is actually pretty tough. They are two seperate stories. I really enjoyed each series. However, I enjoyed the Harry Potter World a lot better. I also enjoyed J.K Rowlings humor through out the book. You can see some of her writing style from Harry Potter shine through the Casual Vacancy.

I read The Cuckoos Calling and it was as if a different author wrote it altogether. I really wish she would stick to what she does best. She has a great sense of humor.

I agree with you -
Ammonia wrote:I don't think there should be any discussing on the subject. It's wrong to do so, because it would cause arguments among Rowling's fans and Collins' fans. Besides, they don't really have much in common in order to be compared. Collins' is writing about the post-apocalyptic struggle, while Rowling has written about growing up in a world of magic.
No offense to the author of the topic, but I really don't see how the two could be compared. :)

I would also choose JK Rowling. I n book form, Harry Potter is definitely more intricately written.
The Hunger games is better as a movie than a book.
