Is Robin Cook the master of medical thrillers?

Post by ecoman »

Robin Cook has been declared the best writers of medical thrillers. How does he compare to Michael Palmer, Patricia Cornwell, Tess Gerritsen, Leonard Goldberg or maybe Michael Crichton? If there's any other authors in this genre who I haven't mentioned, please comment on how you would rank them.

Having read most novels by both Michael Crichton and Robin Cook, I'd have to say I'm torn. Crichton was a pioneer in the genre and earned popularity for medical thrillers with his Jurassic Park series. Robin Cook also greatly stands out among other similar authors thanks to his consistency in producing hit novels that also appeal to science fiction enthusiasts, much like Crichton's ventures into genetic manipulation. In my opinion, I think Cook is the proper successor to the prolific Crichton.

I haven't read any medical thrillers. Don't get me wrong - I love a good thriller, but I don't think I have stumbled upon any. At least now I have some authors to try. Any recommendations on books in this genre?

My favorite Medical Thriller writers are Robin Cook and Michael Palmer.
Books I would recommend are:
Coma, Outbreak and Seizure by Robin Cook
The Sisterhood, Extreme Measures, and Critical Judgment by Michael Palmer

I have a ton of Robin Cook and most of Michael Palmer's books, but I have not read them yet. I collect books from several sources, and it's just about time I settled down and started to read some of them. Think I will begin with Robin Cook. I like that they seem to be stand alone books.

Absolutely! I read Robin Cook's Brain long time ago and to this day I am apprehensive about going to hospitals! The ability to not only write a good book but in such a way that your readers are so captivated that they believe everything is nothing less than magic.

Robin Cook is definitely one of the best if not the best in my opinion. But again I have not read many of other writers of the same genre apart from Michael Crichton. May be I will try some of the recommended books of Michel Palmer and others.

Robin Cook has always been my favorite medical thriller author, and his work inspired my own writing. I haven't read his latest, "Host," yet, but I'd like to. I've also read Michael Palmer, and I enjoy Kathy Reichs's novels too even though she's more a forensics thriller writer than a medical thriller writer. I can't believe I haven't read any Crichton yet. I really need to do so.
