Dean Koontz or Stephen King?

I prefer Dean Koontz since his books are a bit faster paced. While King draws out his introductions and dumps a ton of information on you at one time. What are your thoughts on their writing styles??

I have loved many of Koontz's books but King is my favorite author.

I prefer Koontz as well. I've never really gotten into King, though I have read quite a few of his books. I think I just have an easier time liking the characters in Koontz's work. It's been years since I last read King, so I don't recall specifics, but I do remember just having a harder time getting into the stories or relating to the characters.

I prefer Koontz, but I will always have a soft spot for King as well! Koontz was the first ~adult~ author I ever read (in sixth grade, I picked up my mom's copy of Watchers and was hooked), and he's just sort of been my go-to ever since!

I prefer Koontz as well. While I enjoy Stephen King, I find Koontz characters more approachable. My favorite is Odd Thomas!

Dean Koontz has always been hit-or-miss with me, whereas I've almost always enjoyed King's stuff. That said, when Koontz writes a good one, he writes a GREAT one.

Dean Koontz! I am not impressed with Stephen King's writing at all. I always felt like he could take a writing course.

I tried reading King when I was in high school but did not really like his style or story lines. I switched to Koontz and fell in love with his style and stories. I have recently read a few King books and am starting to appreciate his style a little more.

They are such different authors. To me Stephen King has more of a fantasy style whereas Koontz is a thriller story teller. I wouldn't compare them though. King's fiction is set in fantasy places or have a sci-fi theme to it, whereas Koontz is based in reality.

I was a fan of both, but first read Stephen King. I liked Dean Koontz in the beginning, but along the way I found some of his work to be substandard, and I wasn't finishing them. I've never not finished a Stephen King novel.

It would depend on a book, but in general, Stephen King. I would not turn down books by Koontz, either, so it's a toss up.
