Icon A small Summary of author Clive Cussler

Post by princemaxp »

Clive Cussler, the founder and chairman of the real-life National Underwater and Marine Agency (NUMA), which has discovered more than 60 shipwreck sites and numerous other notable underwater wrecks is the lead author of more than 70 books. He was born in Aurora, Illinois, and grew up in Alhambra, California. He enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. During his service in the Air Force, he was promoted to Sergeant and worked as an aircraft mechanic and flight engineer for the Military Air Transport Service (MATS). He started his career in writing with the novel The Mediterranean Caper and Iceberg(Dirk Pitt Adventure series).

His novels always attracted me as he always uses some references from past with an alternating idea like "what if Abraham Lincoln was not assassinated but was kidnapped ? "(from book Sahara), "What if the Nazis are still alive in this modern world and are planning to destroy the world, operating under the sons and Grandsons of Adolf Hitler ?"(from book Atlantis found) or " what if Atlantis is real and Atlantians were more advance than us ?"(also from book Atlantis Found). The novels also help us to visualise the world if these theories had been real.

Dirk Pitt Adventure Series:

I have read all the the Dirk Pitt Adventure series books and all of the books have some references from the past and some of them have some past altering endings also. In this series as the name suggest the main character is DIrk Pitt and his friend Al Giordino. There are some other characters who helps these main characters such as
*Admiral James Sandecker, the Chairman of NUMA in the novels.
*Congresswoman Loren Smith lover Dirk Pitt.
*Rudi Gunn an Ex Navy Commander and also Director of Logistics for NUMA.
*Hiram Yeager who is in charge of the computer lab of NUMA. He has also created his masterpiece "Max", a computer personality that serves as a graphical user interface to the computer. Max is displayed as an image of his wife and can understand human speech and is a talking and self-thinking computerized manifestation. In fact Max often jokes and offers witty commentary and has even been known to flirt with Dirk Pitt.

The Oregon Files Series

I also started with another series of Clive Cussler ' The Oregon Files '. This series is totally different from Dirk Pitt Series. In this the main character is Juan Cabrillo who is an Ex CIA Agent. After he left CIA, he started his own private team naming it "The Corporation". The Corporation operates from a freighter named Oregon which appears as decrepit but actually is a high-tech advanced ship. The ship is run like a business, with its crew being shareholders, taking jobs for the CIA and other agencies to help stop crime and terrorism. The crew is adept at disguises, combat, computer hacking, and more, to aid their missions. Some of the characters of the Corporation are:
*Max Hanley: President of The Corporation / Chief Engineer. Formerly in the US Navy.
*Linda Ross: Vice President of The Corporation replacing Richard Truitt, previously Security and Surveillance Specialist. Formerly an Intelligence Officer aboard a US Navy Aegis Guided Missile Cruiser.
*George "Gomez" Adams: Helicopter Pilot. Former US Army 160th SOAR
*Chuck "Tiny" Gunderson: Chief Pilot, Fixed Wing.
*Julia Huxley: Medical Officer. Formerly the Senior Medial Officer at the US Naval base in San Diego.
*Hali Kasim: Communications / General Operations.
*Franklin "Linc" Lincoln: Head of General Operations. Formerly a US Navy SEAL.
*Mark Murphy: Shipboard Weapons and Technology Specialist / General Operations.
*Kevin Nixon: Magic Shop Specialist.
*Eddie Seng: Director of Shore Operations / Security and Surveillance Specialist replacing Linda Ross. Formerly a US Marine then CIA Operative.
*Eric Stone: Control Room Operator / General Operations / Chief Helmsman.

I also have read all the books of the Oregon File series and loved it. The novels also have references of advance technologies.

There are two more series which I have not read at all:
* Isaac Bell Adventures
* Fargo Adventures

I will post a summary on these series when I have read all the books of the series.
Thank You !!

I'd just like to mention that my dad is an avid reader of Clive Cussler. He works as a package car driver and owns a Kindle Fire or something similar and reads Clive when he is on break. I knew his books were somewhat military related, but now I realize that there is a lot more to his books. They sound really interesting, especially with the alternatives to history. Those are really fun questions to think about. I also like that you provided some of his background.

What would you recommend I start with from him?
