Hi

I was wondering whether anyone out there could help. My dad is a massive Wilbur Smith fan, he cannot put his latest book down.

As he is now retired, and an avid reader, I would like to get him some books for Christmas. He has read all the Wilbur Smith books released. Can anyone recommend books of a similar ilk, preferably just released within the
past few weeks. I was going to get him Clive Cussler's The Wrecker, however I just phoned my mum, and she told me he has read that already and just thought it was OK

Any help would be much appreciated.

Based on a quick look I took at the author's page, it looks like his works are largely of the historical fiction genre, is that correct?

I've read several of Clive Cussler's books, and I was never impressed, though I have heard his earlier books, especially those without the second author, are the ones worth looking at.

I also found that Smith listed C.S. Forrester, Patrick O' Brien, Robert Graves, Gerald Durrell, Ryder Haggard, Larry McMurtry, Bernard Cornwell and Cormac McCarthy as his favorite authors, seems like a reasonable bet to check these out. I personally like Patrick O'Brien, author of Master and Commander, and Bernard Cornwell also looks interesting to me.

Hope some of these help, if not perhaps you would post some more specific guidelines on the preferred kind of book.
