For any of you historical non-fiction buffs (and I know there has to be atleast one, besides me), Stephen E. Ambrose is a phenomenal author. He has written many books depicting the D-Day invasion of World War II and has also written a biography of Eisenhower. Any book he has written is generally a great read. Has anyone else read any titles from him? If so, what did you think about it?

I like historical books, but unfortunately I didn’t read anything by Stephen Ambrose. I will read some of his works in the future.

Hi! First-time poster here.
I've read several of Ambrose's books - Band of Brothers (of course), D-Day, Pegasus Bridge and Crazy Horse & Custer. I have Citizen Soldiers and Wild Blue on my shelf to be read at some point.
I love SA's books. I was rather disappointed by his son Hugh's The Pacific - he's nowhere near as good a writer as his dad.
The D-Day book has been criticised here in the UK as being somehow "anti-British". As a Brit, I don't agree; sure, he concentrates on Omaha Beach, but (a) he's an American author, with access to American archives, so you'd expect that emphasis, and (b) Omaha was where all the drama was anyway.
Furthermore, while he is slightly critical of the British landing forces, he is effusive in his praise for the British airborne troops - the Pegasus Bridge book takes this to even greater heights.
Great writer, sadly missed.

Have heard of him a lot. Unfortunately, haven't gotten to read anything by him as yet. Which book should I pick first?

I'd say Band of Brothers or D-Day, but they're all good.
