Has anyone read Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver/ I have just finished it and feel bereft. plus a range of other emotions linked to the subjectmatter; angry being one about the communist witch hunts of the '40's in America- needed to veny a bit.

Lacuna is a superb read .... took a little while to get into it but once I did I really enjoyed it. I still think The Poisonwood Bible was marginally better IMO though as they are very different types of book it's probably not fair to compare them.
I do agree with you the depiction of the manipulated of peoples lives is most distressing. You should read 'I Married A Communist' by Philip Roth if you are interested in this topic.

I read Poisonwood Bible and loved it. Loved the characters and writing and the unique scenery. I hadn't read her books, sorry to say.
