New Author R.L. Mathewson w/excerpts

Post by RLMathewson »

My name is R.L. Mathewson. I currently have two novels out. One is titled Tall, Dark & Lonely: A Pyte Series Novel and the other is titled A Humble Heart.

You can find more information about my books at Amazon and Barnes and Noble as well as my website, rlmathewson

Tall, Dark & Lonely is a natural born vampire, a Pyte, book. Here's the excerpt:

“What the hell…,” she murmured against her better judgment.

He gave her a lopsided grin. “I don’t suppose there’s any chance you didn’t see that?”

She shook her head. His smile disappeared as he sighed, “I didn’t think so.” He turned to face her. “I need to taste your blood.”

She backed away from him. “I’m not letting you sink your teeth into me, you bloodsucker!”

As her back hit the table she reached back for a weapon. She found the roll basket and picked it up quickly hugging it to her chest. She began throwing rolls at him while she retreated away from him. “Get back!”

He ducked out of the way easily. “Or what you’ll throw butter at me?” he teased.

“I’m not kidding….I’ll….I’ll…” She looked around the room, there was nothing around that she could use, no crosses, no holy water. Damn it why hadn’t her Grandmother found religion? That would be really helpful at the moment.

Ephraim held his hands up. She was out of rolls. “Listen, I know you’re frightened and I understand that. I’m not trying to scare you, but I need to taste your blood.”

She threw the basket at him. “Are you crazy? I’m not letting you bite me!”

“I don’t want to bite you. Your blood is the last thing I want.” He looked pained.

That stopped her short. “My blood’s not good enough for you?”

“That’s not it at all.” He didn’t try to walk after her. Ephraim remained where he was, but they both knew he could get to her before she made it to the door so she didn’t try to run, yet.

“Wait, you do drink blood, don’t you?” This was getting really confusing.

He ran a frustrated hand through his hair. “Yes!”

“You don’t have to snap it was just a question.”

He held up a hand. “My apologies.”

She nodded her acceptance. “Why isn’t my blood good enough? I bathe, I eat healthy, I don’t use drugs, drink or smoke. I’m not a vampire or anything but I would think that would make my blood attractive.”

His jaw dropped. “Are you trying to get me to bite you?”

“No!”

“Then why-“

“Because you insulted my blood!”

He pinched the bridge of his nose and chuckled.

“You think this is funny?” Madison demanded.

“No, I think this is the most trying conversation of my life.”

A Humble Heart is a contemporary novel about a woman using her dreams to free herself and her two small children from a bad marriage only to find herself in the spotlight with one of the most famous men on earth. Here's the excerpt:

“Where the hell are all these girls coming from?” Dana asked. She looked up at the movie listings and saw the reason, a Mason brother’s movie. They were the latest boy band group. They had millions of girls obsessed with them.

“Edward, I love you! I want you!” Please be mine!” Girls screamed. Several others screamed his name and their undying love for him. “I’ll have your baby!” another yelled.

Edward looked around. They were now completely blocked. The girls were forming a huge thick circle around them. He pulled Dana into his arms tighter.

“No! She can’t have him! I hate you, Dana Mathews!” girls screamed.

“I don’t think they’re going to let me join your fan club,” Dana mumbled.

He chuckled. “Yeah, I think that route is out for you.”

“Damn, I was really hoping to get the key chain and matching tee shirt.”

He sighed heavily. “I’m really sorry, baby. I tried.”

She wrapped her arms around him making the girls scream and cry. “I think if you kiss me right now they’ll tear me apart."

He held her tighter afraid it was true. “Girls, I appreciate your enthusiasm, but I need to get her home right now,” he said loud and clear, hoping some of the girls would use some common sense and move out of the way.

“No! She’s a bitch! I hate you, Dana! You could have any man in the world why’d you take him!” they screamed.

The girls were crying hysterically and moving closer to him. “Back off!” he snapped. They paused for a short second before continuing.

“This is about to get really bad,” Dana whispered.

He pulled out his phone and dialed 911.

“911, what’s your emergency?”

“My fiancé and I are being surrounded by crazed fans at Hoyt Cinemas on Chestnut."

“Sir, is this a joke?”

I personally love r.l. mathewson stories. My favorite is the neighbor's from hell series and the book writers stories. The pyte series was a great series too but a little too intense for me.
