I loved Night Chills. I wrote a song after reading that book (I was 18 at the time, so forgive the crudeness):CDA wrote:His earlier stuff is better, I'd say. Night Chills was a good one, I seem to recall.

Fear for the Masses
V1
Enervation of conscience
Vacancy of Perception
Usurper control, not a trace of conception
V2
Awe from the offer
Discountenance denied
No time inside, for the tears they cry
Pre-C
Passive control
Cripple
I'm in your soul
C
Fear for the mind
Collapsing the kind
Rapture the mind
Fear for the masses!
V3
Domination complete
Obsolete conflagration
Lock to a key, fascination for me
V4
I'm yours and your mind
Overwhelmed from the bind
A telephone rings, the former order of things
Endtro
I am the lord, you are the slave
To serve me everyway
To follow my words, and be what I say
Is the debt to be paid
Abandon your womb, to follow me now
I can show you the way
Attaching the cords, the final phase
of the game that I play

I thought ColdFire was OK, as was Door to December and Husband.
You may want to start her on the Odd Thomas series. They are fairly clean, and Odd is one of my favorite characters. In fact, generally Koontz doesn't write series, he once said that with Odd, he couldn't resist, he just likes the guy so much that he had to keep writing about him. It has some good plot twists, and if she enjoys it, there are 5 books in the series.

I've also enjoyed:
The Taking
Watchers
From the Corner of His Eye
The Vision
Husband
Why are you thinking of Koontz for her? Is she a Stephen King fan, horror/thriller/mystery fan, John Grisham person? Perhaps you are just trying to get her into a new type of novel? Are you switching her from murder-mysteries to a more fantastical theme?
Or is she already a Koontz fan, and you want to buy her one she hasn't read yet?
A bit more information and we could all be more helpfull, if you'd like. We might be able to offer books from Koontz or other authors that come closer to what you want.
Good luck.

Phantoms, in my opinion, was the scariest book I ever read. Mr Koontz does fantabulous writing here!!!CassieXO wrote:So I haven't read any of his work, but I am thinking of buying one of his books for my mom for her birthday, any recomendations?
