We all have our dark sides. The only difference is, some people’s dark sides are considered darker. Given an opportunity, we all would want to flee from our past dark moments and find new places. Places where we wouldn’t be judged based on our past. Flight to Freedom by Ray Anselmo is a fictional book about Rose, a lady who tries to run away from her past, but encounters several challenges that she had to overcome. This is the sixth book in the Redemption Bluff series.

This book has 118 pages and is divided into 12 chapters. It also has both a prologue and an epilogue. The narration is in the third person’s point of view and takes the past simple tense. Although the subsequent chapters are a continuation of the previous ones, each chapter has at least a single distinct feature. Most of the time, new chapters come with new settings or new accounts of events. The author uses simple vocabularies which make the book easy to read and understand. For this reason, even teenagers can read and understand it.

Rose has been working as a prostitute her whole life. Her boss, Mr. Pope, had turned them into his properties. He even claims that he owns them. They often worked with very little food. When you’re working for Pope, only death can retire you from slavery. However, Rose has resolved to flee from this slavery to Redemption Bluff, a small town that gives everyone an opportunity to run away from their past and start life afresh, with no one to judge you based on what you used to be. Will Mr. Pope allow her to leave the premises without a spirited pursuit? Will she reach her destination and begin a fresh life?

This was a very enjoyable book with an exciting storyline. There are several themes covered throughout the book, but the theme of change is the dominant one. Redemption Bluff gives people fresh hopes, fresh lives, and new identities. It makes them forget about their past mistakes. Other themes include love and marriage, friendship, and conflict.

I enjoyed reading this book. The author created well-developed characters and an excellent storyline. For instance, Rose is portrayed as ambitious and respectful. I also like that the book was very suspenseful, with several twists and turns which leave the reader curious and longing for more. This was a relatively short book. I read it in a single sitting. Since I only found one typographical error, this book was well edited.

Because there wasn’t anything that I disliked, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I recommend it to anyone who loves suspenseful books with heavy underlying messages. If you’re resistant to change and think offenders can only change through heavy punishments, then this book isn’t for you.

Although this is the sixth book of the series, I am glad that it is possible to read it as a short story and follow on without a lot of confusion. Sounds like a very pleasant read Thank you for the well-written review! Happy reading

I am not a huge fan of reading sequels. Because every book in the series in quite interlinked. Though, the story seems quite interesting from the review.
