Official Review: Promise of Spring by T.K. Conklin
Promise of Spring by T.K. Conklin is a historical romance set in the early 1800's. True sets out into the west to visit her sister. A woman traveling alone faces many dangers, and it isn't long before she realizes that. When her freight-wagon driver gets shot by bandits, she steals a horse and gets away, only to find herself in a freezing creek after rescuing a child from the thin ice. She wakes up in a strange house with a man who seems to attract her more than her fiance, Steven. Will her desires for Sam win over her neatly planned life with Steven? You'll have to read the book to find out!
I loved the adventurous spirit of the heroin in this book. True epitomizes the pioneer spirit that women of the west made famous over the years in history. Without a doubt, that is what I liked most about this book. True moves forward instead of back in every situation and listens to her heart in all things. It made me like the heroin right away.
The writing style in this book is easy to read and entertaining. The conversations are light and move along nicely. The plot was never hard to follow or difficult to read. I enjoyed the constant insights into the heroine's thoughts and feelings as the story progressed.
The character development of this work is excellent. I felt like I could recognize each character if I met them on the street. I liked that the supporting characters of the book gained strength of character throughout the story.
True's ability to have insight or visions of the future makes her a unique and interesting heroin that will appeal to many readers. This aspect may not appeal to some readers, however, so I caution those readers in case they may not like that element in this story.
I could find nothing to dislike about this book. The storyline is entertaining, and the romance is satisfying even to the most demanding romance fan. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys historical romance set in western America in the 1800's. There are a few instances of profanity, and that may bother some, as well as sexual content that may not appeal to readers who like romance without spicier scenes. It seems professionally edited. The only errors I found were missing commas, so they didn't affect the rating. Without further ado, I rate this book with 4 out of 4 stars.
