The Glass Lake by Maeve Binchy

The Glass Lake is a novel by Maeve Binchy based in rural Ireland in the 1950's. Kit McMahan is only 13 years old when her mother (Helen) disappears and is assumed dead, or is she? Follow Kit as she struggles to move into womanhood without a mother and makes some unlikely friends, such as the gypsy's that make camp near the lake.

Like all of Maeve Binchy's books there is a delightful cast of interesting characters and wonderful descriptions of the settings. This book does not disappoint. I was inspired to pick up a few more of her works after reading Tara Road.
