Icon Review: One Night in Italy by Lucy Diamond

Post by sidonie220 »

I a fan of Lucy Diamond and recently read one of newest books called "One night in Italy". The book focuses on a trio of people with various things going on in their personal lives who all attend an Italian language class and build a friendship with one another.

Meet Anna, a food journalist who longs to meet her father who she knows very little about.
Meet Catherine, a mother whose children have left to go to university and is having problems with her doctor husband.
Then there's Sophie, a keen traveler who has returned to England due to a family crisis.

As each of these characters attend their Italian language class you find out more about them and their connections to Italy. Each chapter is written from the perspective of each character and flows surprisingly well. The book has beautiful and imaginative descriptions of Italy, the culture, the food and the atmosphere which makes you desperately want to visit the country yourself as you're reading it. The characters are all relatable and interesting and you find yourself being drawn into and swept away with the story.

This book has made me laugh, made me hungry with the gorgeous descriptions of food, made me empathathise with each of the character's struggles and made me root for each and every one of the characters. I have thoroughly enjoyed Lucy Diamond's latest book and once again I'm looking forward to getting my hand's on her next book. Highly recommended! 5/5 stars.
