Revelations from the Past is a suspenseful romance story by Lori J. Gordon. The book is an easy read of about 190 pages that I was able to finish in one sitting. It tells the love story of Lisa and Colby. This is a stand alone novel, however it does have characters from a previous book. The best friends in this book are characters from "Victims of Circumstance". While you do not need to read that book to understand this story it is a very enjoyable book I would recommend reading.

Lisa Rose carries a dark secret that she hides from even her closest friends. She survived being shot by her late husband before he turned the gun on himself. After she recovered from her gunshot wound, Lisa fled her home in Sacramento and moved to Oregon to try to forget her past. Years later in New York City at the wedding of her best friend she meets the hunky best man Colby Durran. She is unable to deny the chemistry between them and decides to put her tragic past behind her. During a passionate night at the hotel after the wedding, Lisa discovers Colby is a undercover detective. He's her greatest fear, a man with a gun. Lisa throws Colby out of the hotel room without an explanation. Colby won't give up that easy and digs into Lisa's past to figure out why she's scared. What he finds takes him to the other side of the country and puts Lisa's life in grave danger. What follows is a series of twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Lori Gordon quickly builds the connection between Lisa and Colby. She established the strong feelings they have for each other very early in the book. She is able to skillfully bring support characters, both good and bad, into the storyline without making it difficult to remember whose who. Lori keeps adding details to Lisa's past, helping the readers understand her emotional and mental insecurities, especially when dealing with men with guns. Lori is able to bring Colby's police characteristics out very strongly. He is strong and protective and always looking to do what is right. Each character throughout the book is very realistic and believable. They could be people you work with or interact with on a regular basis. The emotions portrayed throughout the story are so profound and genuine, from Lisa's fears to her finally trusting a man.

My main irritation in the book was the main character Lisa, who was very wishy-washy. One paragraph she's kicking Colby out of her home and the next paragraph she is begging him to stay. I understand this is a true characteristic of some people it just drove my crazy with Lisa. She could never seem to make up her mind in the book. My only other criticism was the storyline was very rushed. The whole book takes place in a period of about one week. I find it hard to believe somebody could meet someone and fall completely in love in less than 48 hours. Knowing that they're the person they want to be with the rest of their life in such a short time doesn't seem possible.

I would recommend this book for anyone who enjoys a good suspenseful romance. There is a little violence in the book so keep that in mind if you are sensitive to that. I would give this book a rating of 3 out of 4 stars. Overall the story is well written with only a few minor editing errors. I would be interested in reading more books from this author.

Reading the beginning of your summary immediately reminded me of Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks. Didn't read the book but thoroughly enjoyed the story presented in the film. So sounds like my kind of book. Your complaints are definitely justified. Great review!

It's a shame the main character wasn't all that you hoped. Great review!

Thanks everybody. I really enjoyed the book and storyline. I just prefer for female characters to be a little stronger than this one but the male characters were wonderful. They were strong and tough while still being sensitive and caring.

I could relate with you about the main character, Lisa. I want them, especially girls, strong and firm. Very nice review!
