Review: Captivated by You (Crossfire 4) Sylvia Day

Post by khudecek »

Eighteen months and 60 books read later, I finally get the fourth installation of the Crossfire series.

The story was typical Gideon and Eva. It was loaded with lots of sex that got monotonous. It was full of them trying to balance things out and learning how to cope with this and that and if Ms. Day hadn't switched up the format, I would have been so disappointed. It saved the book.

It was good that we finally got to see things from Gideon's point of view. If you recall from the first three books, the story was told from Eva's. It's actually split between the two of them in this book and I liked that a lot. I always did like Gideon but when you really see the world through his eyes, it puts a great spin on the story. Like I said, it saved the book.

I want to state an opinion that has nothing to do with the story. Eighteen months is a ridiculous amount of time to wait for any book. I don't care how great of an author you are or you think you are. To make readers and potential fans wait that long for a book is uncalled for and frankly, I thought the story should have been better for as long as we had to wait. I read 60 books between the third installment and this book so I had to go read the first three books of the series again. I'd forgotten a lot of it. Maybe that was the plan, I don't know and I don't care. It aggravated me and reinforced my loathing of book series.

I read somewhere that we're only going to have to wait somewhere around six months for the next book and all I can say is I hope it's the last book for this. I love Gideon and Eva but the story is getting boring and redundant and I feel ripped off for having to wait so long for a mediocre story.

Thanks for the review :) I read and thoroughly enjoyed the first three books. The only thing I didn't like is the name Gideon LOL On a serious note though, I didn't even know there was a fourth book! Is this supposed to be the last one in the series?! I don't really like it when authors keep churning out too many books in a series. I prefer to read and conclude a story, happy in the knowledge that I have my happily ever after :)

I didn't like his name at first, either, lol. I thought Gideon should have had a much stronger name.

As for the series, there is going to be a fifth book and I really hope it's the last. I love the series but too much of a good thing can be a bad thing. I don't know when it's coming out but I did hear that it wasn't going to take 18 months. Like you, I don't like it when an author puts out too many books in a series for the very same reason as you don't. I want my happily ever after a lot faster than five or six books down the road. And waiting for 18 months between installations really griped me. There was no excuse for that.

They're making a series out of it, too. I don't know if it's going to be on Showtime or HBO or what and I don't know when but I'm sure I'll watch it. :)

His name threw me off too! But I still enjoyed the book. Defiently can't wait for the 5th and I am pretty sure it is the last..at least according to her website it is her last for that series. It is getting drawn out. I hope she throws in a few good curve balls to make it enjoyable!
I'm opposite as you guys I enjoy the amount of books, I don't just want a 1 book wonder why not make a great story out of a few books instead of reading multiple different books. That's just me tho
also series is going to be on HBO. Going to have to add it to my satellite so I can watch it too! ;)

I don't know her website just says HBO. I don't think they have done any casting or anything so I'm sure it will still be awhile

I too loved that the book was in Gideon's POV. I am ready for the story to end however.I hate that it has taken so long between books. It almost made me very weary of starting any series that isnt complete and published already. Silvia Day is a wonderful writer and I also love every other book I've ever read of hers.

That made me incredibly angry. I follow her on social media and every now and again, she would put up pictures of herself doing something in Belgium or wherever and I understand the marketing thing for authors. I get it but I was resentful at the same time because of how long I'd been waiting for this book. I wasn't the only one, I know. She was getting some snappy messages in her comments by other readers who were waiting and waiting and waiting.

I don't care how good of an author you are or how good you think you are, 18 months is just too long to make people wait for the next book in a series. That is a sign of a big ego and too much confidence. She was playing her fans and throwing them a piece of meat once in awhile just to calm them down.

I'm glad this upcoming book is the last one, too and I have to say that I'm less than excited. I'm in too deep to not finish the series but if it takes another 18 months to get it out, I may forget the whole thing and never read anymore of her junk.

And I do think her attitude jaded my opinion of the book. Gideon's point of view saved it as far as I'm concerned and I still gave it 3/5. It should have been monumental and it left me disappointed.

I agree! This book was not her best work by far. She's a great author but for it to have taken so long nothing happened except the same ole same ole. I'm really getting tired of the getting mad and moving out!! They are adults work on your crap and move on. At this point in the story they should be more evolved and over all that stuff. But hey that's just my opinion. I am hoping this next book redeems the last two and I'll be glad to FINALLY get the end of the story. By the time captivated came out in had to re read the other three books because it had been so long and I had read so many other books I couldn't remember all the details. I'll continue to wait because I'm too invested at this point :) but I'm not happy about it :/

I had to read the first three over again, too. In addition to that, I'd read 60 books in between the time I finished the third one and the fourth one came out. I was really ticked off and I wasn't alone.

And you're right about the "ol, same ol". It was just an expansion on how much and in how many different ways Gideon and Eva could do the wild thing. There is a story there somewhere but it gets clouded in the sex. I got tired of the sex and I really don't like the way they talk to each other. If my husband were to tell me he's going to F me, I'd kick him out of bed. Sorry but that's just me. I don't find that to be in any way loving or caring. You can get sex anywhere but where are you going to find love?

I'm old school like that, I guess.

I'll read the final book and probably do a happy dance when it's over. I'm in too deep to quit now.

Originally when reading this series, I was under the impression it was a trilogy. Then I was so annoyed when I read the third book and it turned out there would be a fourth one. I thought the fourth one was going to be the last, but now see from what people post there will be another. Don't know it I will bother with the fourth one, since I was getting tired of the story at the end of the third book.

The only redeeming thing with the fourth one is that you get some of the story from Gideon's point of view. That saved the book as far as I was concerned.

I will read the fifth one and I really hope it's the last. The fourth one was such a letdown, I shouldn't even bother but I have to admit to being curious.

Read the first three and loved them. Thought it was a lot better than fifty shades for sure.

Title : Captivated by You
Series : Crossfire Series #4
Author : Sylvia Day
Pages : 356
Published : 18th November 2014

The story continues from where Entwined with You ended. The best part about this novel is that it contains Gideon's POV as well.
Everybody wants either revenge or something else from both Gideon and Eva. And their bond is tested from time and time again.
I think this is the best book in the series and simply unputdownable.

I am thankful for your review. Not everyone is going to agree on a book or series and it is refreshing to hear your thoughts and opinions on it. While I love it, and the series - I am only one person and my thoughts do not reflect everyone out there. I read more than 450+ books while waiting for this story and still found that the love they shared made me enjoy the story more.

Like you, I was excited to have Gideon's account of what was going on. Truly refreshing don't you feel? We rarely get a guys point of you anymore in the romance genre, as many authors are afraid to do it. So nice that we can discuss a book and really hear both sides!
