Review: Drawn to You by Liwen Y. Ho
What would you do if you were on the verge of losing everything, and your only savior was a person who once broke your heart? Meet Sam Koo, a smart and confident protagonist, who often finds herself on the other side of law. She usually charms her way out of problems, but this time, she is about to get evicted and there seems to be nothing she can do. Now meet Lucas Choi, a cop by profession. He likes to have a plan and a structure for everything in life.
Sam and Lucas could not be more different. In the past, they went to the same school and a series of misunderstandings led to heartbreak for Sam. Sam thinks Lucas loves putting her into trouble, and she cannot trust him again. What happens when they meet again, years later? What happens when Lucas offers to help her? Will it remain strictly business –the way they envision it, or will they eventually give into their feelings? Enter Lucas’s daughter, Sam’s mother and sisters, and a little bit of drama, and that makes the story.
The language, grammar, editing and formatting are good. There were no obvious mistakes and I did not lose my flow of reading at any point, because of the language used. The book is easy to read and has a smooth flow.
What I loved about the book was the protagonist – Sam. Despite being in trouble, she was not an emotional mess. She was not the typical “Damsel in Distress”. For most parts of the book, she was strong, clever and funny. I could connect to her and was rooting for her throughout the book.
What I did not like about the book was its length. There’s a strong and interesting plot. There’s a lot happening in the book, but it’s all covered in 130 pages. I would have liked to read more about their encounters in school, possibly as flashbacks, and not merely as part of their conversations. Further, throughout the story, there are passing references of Sam’s experiences in Paris (after school). She seems to have regrets, and that creates curiosity in the reader. There’s an explanation for it towards the end of the story, again as part of a conversation. I would have liked to read more about this, since it had a strong influence on her current personality.
Overall, despite the length, I liked the book. It made me curious and held my attention till the end. I read the book in one sitting, and that speaks for itself. I rate the book 3 out of 4 stars, for its interesting plot and strong characters. I would recommend it to anyone who likes clean romance books. It’s a quick and interesting read. In the end, you’ll be pleased to have read it. Go pick it up!

It is an interesting book. If only certain aspects were elaborated upon! Thank You so muchkimmyschemy06 wrote:Sounds like a very interesting book. I like stories about ex-sweethearts meeting again and given another chance, BUT, I like back stories that explain whatever present situations they are in. Good job on the review.
